When the going gets tough, the tough start to party. That’s the premise of the group 350.org’s second Global Work Day coming up next Sunday, October 10. On 10-10-10, over 5,000 actions in 180 countries will draw attention to the need for action on climate change.
While the Global Work Party celebrates people power, a key audience is the politicians and policymakers around the world. Action on global warming mitigation has been slow, and hopes are not high for the upcoming climate talks in Cancun, Mexico in December. Now more than ever, we need to speak out, speak up, and get attention.
No time? Too much trouble? Seems like everybody could do something. Here are the Top Ideas for 10/10/10 events:
According to the 350.org’s calendar of 10-10-10 events around the world, in Bamako, Mali a nonprofit will gather kids to plant 350 trees in the morning and hold a workshop in the afternoon around the dangers of climate change. In rural Alwar, India, farmers will gather to learn more about climate change and biodiversity protection. In Beijing, the Great Green Race is a community competition to see who can collect the most trash from Beijing’s parks in a three-hour period. And the list goes on and on. Folks in Addison, Texas will be cleaning up their local creek. And in New York City, Tech4Good will gather a bunch of volunteer techies to give free help and advice to green groups and environmental projects to help improve their websites, blogs, or other technical needs.
350.org’s website also provides resources for organizing events, including a 10-step guide on how to plan a vigil. The group takes its name from the target amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere: 350 parts per million that scientists have identified as the level needed to halt the acceleration of catastrophic climate change. Our current level of atmospheric CO2 is 388ppm.
This simple, wordless video makes the goal and the message crystal clear:

What a wonderful blessing for this lady.
No breathe, no work! As simple as that!
Because we haven't done enough damage already...

I will walk and say no to Bill Gates and to the Monsanto company. SAVE MOTHER EARTH for we are her VOICE.
My family's contribution to this year's party was to incentive drivers to leave their cars at home, starting from my own father. Come on, it's Sunday ! Get up, get out and walk to places !!! If it is not really necessary to use a way of transport, move your feet ! Do it everyday !!! If your destination is a little farther, get the dust off your bycicle and get the rust off your joints. Your body will be thankful. Your community could become resourceful. Society would follow the examples and humanity would once again be respectful of our own Home. Earth will be grateful.
I will send healing energies to the earth, and walk in the nature.
For 10-10-10 I'll be carving Pumpkins and playing games with a bunch of snobby rich kids, I work for a country club and they decided to have their Halloween party this Sunday.
CO2 is good for trees
10/10/10... Let's do our part in saving and cleaning the environment. :)
sounds great, thanks for sharing :)
Sorry. If I had that day free I'd probably be at the Orlando celebration of the 10th Amendment.
I am surprised that this article wasn't a Care2 daily action, like maybe last week or before? I heard about 10:10:10 from three different sources yesterday, but still took some work to find a group in my area. I did, and will be joining them.
350.org wouldn't work yesterday, but if you add a slash it does (350.org/).
