Pistachio Product Recall

1 comment Pistachio Product Recall

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it is investigating Salmonella contamination in pistachio products sold by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc, California.

According to a press release, the company is voluntarily recalling specific lots of bulk roasted shelled pistachios and 2,000 lbs., 1,700 lbs., 1,800 lbs. and 1,000 lbs. tote bags of roasted inshell pistachios sold to wholesale customers due to potential contamination with the Salmonella organism. The Company is asking those firms who received bulk product and have further processed, repackaged, or distributed the affected products to recall those products and contact FDA. Setton has established a toll free number, (888) 228-3717, for consumers to call for further information.

Both the FDA and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) are investigating. The pistachios are used in a wide variety of products and as these products are traced, the recall is expected to expand.

According to the FDA, several illnesses have been reported by consumers, but a definite link to the pistachios has yet to be proven. The FDA is also recommending that consumers avoid pistachio products until more information is made available.

Visit the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s website (www.FDA.gov) for news and information on their ongoing investigation.

Salmonella shouldn't be in pistatios. That's an animal disease yes?. Maybe it has something to do with genetically modified foods and seeds. I think it neeeds more investigating.
