Polar Bears Discuss Global Warming VIDEO

As the 41st Earth Day draws near (on April 22), now is a good time to take stock of how we and the planet are doing. But let’s not take humans’ word for it. There are enough global warming activist videos out there to create a weeks-long festival, but here are two short ones that put the white bears front and center.

Produced for Friends of the Earth, in this animation two polar bears (and who knew polar bears had Australian accents?) muse about the global warming they see around them:

The bears consider various possible causes for climate change, as their ice floe cracks beneath them. Finally one bear posits that it must be “the humans”.  This theory is dismissed: “The humans? No, they’d never allow that to happen.”
We won’t, will we?

Wordless Video Leaves One Speechless

Talking animals are unusual, but sometimes it doesn’t take words to make us stop and think. This video by Ogilvy with the Ad Council and the Environmental Defense Fund uses striking imagery in a city street to break passersby out of their daily rhythm:

If only animals could talk about global warming…would we listen?

Actually Geraint S, at least one of those accents is Australian. One of the voices of the polar bears is the very marvellous John Clarke, an expat New Zealander we love to claim as ours because he is brilliant.Never thought that I would hear him here on Care 2! Makes me think even more highly of him than I already did, which is pretty damn highly indeed. A very funny, very smart and very thoughtful man.
Good video. Poor polar bears, though - I have the feeling that yes, the humans are going to let that happen to them, because they just didn't want to take responsibility...

The second video is so powerful!
Thank you Nancy for sharing these two intelligent videos with us.
And I hope too that we won't allow that to happen...
