FAUX NEWS: Governor Sanford is Suddenly a Democrat Now That He Had an Affair!

Seriously what is wrong with Fox, I mean, Faux News? I am consistently stunned at their ability to intentionally lie to the American people and yet play it off as an "honest mistake." As I am sure you cannot help but have heard—Mark Sanford, the REPUBLICAN, Governor of South Carolina is the most recent politician to admit to an extra-marital affair. Without going too deeply into the issue of Mark Sanford's affair itself i.e. politicians on both sides of the aisle have affairs (though it does only seem to be the men, eh?) but it is that much worse for the moralizing, family first, sanctity of marriage, promise keeping, legislate the bedroom behavior of others, invade my privacy, gays can't provide a stable home to adopted children Republicans to be caught having the affair because of the blatant hypocrisy. I would still like to think that a news station would have the moral clarity to not intentionally lie to the public by putting a nice big D for Democrat next to Mark Sanford's name now that he has done something naughty.
Now for those of you that say this was an honest mistake please click here to see a montage of Faux News errors that always seem to occur whenever a Republican has done something wrong.
I am seriously going to call my cable company and find out if there is a way I can block Fox News from my television (with apologies to my parents and in-laws who enjoy watching it when they visit) because I have had enough of this bull. Fox is supposed to be a real news station, it is not some late night satirical show on Comedy Central pretending to be news, they are supposed to be the real thing and yet they continually get away with this type of blatant intentional "mistakes" and there is virtually nothing I can think of to do about it.
I know from having seen "The Corporation" that the FCC is toothless. The movie discusses a previous court case wherein two former reporters sued Faux News for firing them because they refused to lie about RBGH, a hormone designed to help cows produce more milk. The court agreed with Faux New's defense and stated that "that the FCC's policy against the intentional falsification of the news does not qualify as the required "law, rule, or regulation" under section 448.102." In other words, the FCC's own policy against distortion and lying does not actually mean that a news program cannot lie because a policy is not technically are "law, rule or regulation."
If you need further proof just do a search on Mark Sanford and Fox News on YouTube and you will find a plethora of videos in which Faux News correctly identifies him as a Republican when is he doing brave conservative things like refusing to take the stimulus money from the Federal government, and yet, now they think their audience is so stupid that they can just remove the R and put a D next to his name because he has joined the ranks of politicians who cannot keep it in their pants.
PS
I sometimes make mistakes with embedding URLs in my blog so here are the links because they are too integral to not be present in this blog.

And on a final note, I will gladly produce a mea culpa if someone can show me some Fox News footage where they make the opposite mistake i.e. accidentally calling Elliot Spitzer or John Edwards a Republican aftair their falls from grace.
(Oh and seriously ALL of you politicians our there--haven't your realized that with the way media works nowadays that there is no chance to get away with these trists without the world finding out about them. You are not rock stars or athletes and the higher moral grounding you supposesly represent guarantees that if the media smells just the hint of hubris you will go down so give it up already.)

Chris S,
As seems to be typical of people reading this blog you failed to read any of my comments deriding all MSM media outlets not just Fox. I am happy to attack MSMBC or CNN and have done so in the past for being purveyors of junk news and trying to turn non-events into sensationalized news stories. It is just in this case that I have seen Fox make this "error" repeatedly and I couldn't find evidence that other news stations do the same thing. In fact, my searches showed that they tended to not list party id at all regardless of whether the individual was a D or an R. Which while probably not in the best interest of the viewers is not a bad as intentionally changing party affiliation which is what Fox seems to do.
I did some basic searches and without much effort discerned that your other point was also invalid.
While I did not search youtube for video clips of CNN or MSNBC's television coverage of the stories of corruption mentioned in the link you provided I did find mention of these stories on both their websites just by doing a cursory search:
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/12/29/zelizer.rangel/index.html
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/11/house.ethics.PMA.group/
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31384274/ns/politics-capitol_hill/
With that being said I agree that these type of stories deserve more coverage on all news stations regardless of party but where you blame partisanship, I blame corporate interest in providing dumbed down mediocre news.

Faux news are just a bunch of hypocrites and liars and they DO think their viewers are idiots, or at least certain groups of viewers.

Tell us Scott,
What do you think is more important of a network?...The mistake of applying the wrong party affiliation that all of them have been noted for or the intentional omission of reports of other much more serious corruption and crime??...Especially since Sanford has already been cleared of any professional wrongdoing.
Heavy Coverage of Sanfords Woes, But Where Are Democratic Scandals?

Stay away from MediaSplatters Scott, they're just a factory of lies.

I've said this before, and put it out there for your consideration, "Most of what I hear on Fox "news" is "NOT WORTHY OF MY MENTAL REAL ESTATE." Rather than bitch about it, it is more productive to ignore it and concentrate our attention on balanced and constructive reporting. While I support their right to broadcast this drivel, and am concerned about the effectiveness on predisposed or uneducated viewers, it is best avoided by those with positive and constructive objectives.

Scoot having been a union person and now living on a pension, and being a stewart for a # of yrs i couldn't agree more, with less than 7% of this now in the private sector, and the vast expansion in government sector one has to wonder why? Now add this to walmart that has somewhat joined hands with the seiu, when my fellow union associates are paying 8$ to battle the issue of health care, we now find them joining forces with this organization, could be the strong arm tactics from the government, saying hey you have to go along with this or no more products from China? For my own sake i tried to watch the other channels but guess what not one of them seem to have missed the EPA memo which at this time congress has not started to look into this matter, i ask all of you why not? So back to faux news like you's what to call it i need to be informed on what's going on in my Country and i will make the call as to what i see around me to be true. RE: the lost of private sector jobs through unions, as far as the others the only one i see working is the firefighters the rest need serious re-vamping.

Pat and Bev,
If you look at my previous comments I have not only lambasted Maddow and Olberman for what I saw as a failure of journalistic integrity but I have repeated ad nauseum that I am no fan of any of the mainstream 24-hr cable news channels. Most of what they report is two-dimensional schlock without nuance of substance just look at the inordinate amount of attention paid to the death of Michael Jackson and how little coverage there has been about the coup in Honduras. But out of all the news stations Fox is most blatant for passing off commentary as news and for presenting news at a viewpoint that satisfies the lowest common denominator.

i can't stand the news that they put out there and am always trying to find ways of blocking fox news. its so easy to spot in google news because it is usually the most extremist in nature and very anti-democrat/obama. fox as a company should be taken down, for all the mental harm they are causing this country. they are the one station that plays "hip" shows that appeal to our lowest expectations of society, framing really horrible scenarios as accessible cartoons (family guy and simpsons), and then beats people over the head with their news that uses paranoia to steer the nation towards running itself in defense of the lowest expectations of society. the airwaves they rule are a perfect combination of LOTS of money and special interest groups, exposing the audience to really the lowest of the lows in terms of societal expectations, and then spreading republican agenda in paranoid defense against these low expectations of society. they are causing us much mental anguish as a society and should be banned altogether. they are peddlers using horror and low-expectations for society to spread a paranoid way of living to those who are not strong enough to see where they can separate themselves from this soap box preaching bs of a company.

I agree with you Pat. You wont get any news about obama from any other station. Unless, he's done something wonderous? I will admit that Hannity goes a little over the top but part of his show is entertainment. If you listen to just the words and not to the antics it will be fair and balanced. You dont have to take their opinion on subject matter just the info. Check it out for yourself and you make up your own mind.

You Fox News haters should just not watch it, or can you not resist it if you can't get it blocked??? If you want to hear real news that you'll never hear on the other channels, FNC is the only place to go. A lot of you folks just don't realize what is going on in this country, you are so mesmerized by the rock star in the WH. Every other channel is forever bashing Sarah Palin, which she does not deserve. What if Fox bashed michelle obama the same way, or Hillary Clinton? You folks wouldn't like that, either. Fox is passionate about issues that are sending our country down the drain. What has obama done for any of you lately? I don't see any jobs coming down the pike. All I see is taxes, expensive health care and electric bills that nobody will be able to pay. We are headed for serfdom quickly. P.S. I can't stand Rachel Maddow and Keith Olberman especially, they are despicable.
