Porn Studios Fined For Not Using Condoms

Porn Studios Fined For Not Using Condoms

In a surprising and potentially influential move, the California Division of Occupational Health and Safety fined Larry Flynt’s Hustler Video and another porn studio, Forsaken Pictures, for neglecting to provide condoms on the sets of their pornographic films.  Hustler was fined a little over $14,000 for three violations – refusing to maintain written health and illness policies, failing to provide workers with hepatitis C vaccines, and refusing to stock sets with condoms to protect workers from contracting and passing along sexually transmitted diseases.

The issue of whether porn studios should be forced to provide actors with condoms is one that has been debated for a while, and was the subject of much conversation last summer, when AIDS activists filed a complaint against Larry Flynt for not requiring his actors to wear condoms.  Flynt is unapologetic about the lack of condoms in his films, saying that consumers don’t want to see them.

Pornography produced in the United States is overwhelmingly located in the San Fernando Valley.  And studios there struggle to deal with controversies like these, where government regulation means that they can be fined.  As I pointed out in a post last summer, in many cases the actors themselves don’t want to wear condoms; they say that strict batteries of tests for sexually transmitted diseases mean that the industry is capable of policing itself.  This is despite the fact that porn actors occasionally test positive for HIV, like Derrick Burts, who tested positive last fall.  He spoke out later, saying that he supported mandatory condom use in the porn industry.

Porn producers have said that if the state government tries to regulate condom use, they will simply move production out of California.  But this may not be practical.  Currently, AIDS activists are working to make sure that porn studios actually conform to existing regulations, which are quite strict, just rarely enforced.  It will be interesting to see how porn producers respond to these fines; this early move could certainly signal a potential change in the way the porn industry approaches condom use.

Use condoms and edit the films to hide the products. Safety first.

We should care more about sexual health. STDdatings. com says Over 70 million people are living with STDs in the U.S. alone, as well as an estimated 400 million people worldwide. There's 600,000+ members on STDdatings, some famous people also find support there. wish you luck and find someone understand you.

I am only shaking my head in disgust, I do not need a condom or any other implement. I only have one women, my wife. What more do I want. I do not need to prove myself by screwing around, a sick human myth. As for my wife for almost 40 years, we trust each other. As for young people these days, they have totally lost it. With the help of viagra, condoms, the pill and the help of soap operas teaching them all wrong, they are doomed to hell. They will pay the price.

The studio should have all protective products available and the actors should have the right to choose whether to use said products or not. Fine them, they can afford it.

...don't they have movie magic to either prevent them from actually having sex or to hide the condoms?
i DON'T support porno in general but i don't think it's about to disappear. and the solution i've just mentioned seems so obvious!
