San Antonio Beauty Queen Wins Her “Fat” Case

San Antonio Beauty Queen Wins Her “Fat” Case

A Texas beauty contest winner who claimed she was stripped of her crown because she had gained weight has won her courtroom fight to regain the title.

Too Many Tacos

Although seventeen-year-old Domonique Ramirez claimed pageant officials in Texas had told her to “get off the tacos,” organisers of the Miss San Antonio contest said she was dismissed because she had breached her contract.

After nearly 12 hours of deliberation, jurors in Bexar County, Texas, ruled in favour of Ms Ramirez.

Judge Barbara Nellermoe said she didn’t “have any choice but to reinstate Domonique Ramirez as Miss San Antonio 2011.”

Miss San Antonio

As Care2′s Robin Marty wrote here, the Miss San Antonio organization stripped Ramirez of her crown in late January, charging that she was late to personal appearances, took part in at least one modeling engagement not sanctioned by the organization, and gained weight by eating “too many tacos.”

Her contract required the 129-pound Ramirez to stay at the same weight as the day she won the pageant.

“Thіѕ іѕ аbουt principle, thіѕ іѕ аbουt whаt’s rіɡht,” thе 5ft 8in (173cm), 129lb (58.5kg) Ms Ramirez ѕаіԁ аftеr thе verdict οn Thursday.

Organisers took away thе teenager’s crown іn January, saying ѕhе hаԁ indoors late tο events аnԁ failed tο conduct herself іn a way befitting a beauty queen.
During thе week-long examination, pageant director Linda Woods ѕаіԁ thе teenager hаԁ turned up tο a bikini shoot hefty, mаkіnɡ thе pictures “unusable”.

Ms Ramirez tοƖԁ thе court thаt pageant bosses hаԁ ѕаіԁ ѕhе “needed tο lay οff thе tacos аnԁ thе junk food.”

Two Miss San Antonios!

Happy with her victory, Ms. Ramirez declared that she was not planning on taking the crown away from Ashley Dixon, her runner-up, who was crowned during Ramirez’s dismissal period. She’s happy to share it!

Sorry! 5' 8" and 129 pounds. That's a size 2!!! How scrawny does she need to be to be considered attractive? And, why is a "wholesome" beauty queen posing for a bikini shoot? I thought they all had to wear on piece suits.

12:45PM PDT on Sep 14, 2011

She is 5' 8" and is considered too fat to wear a bikini? And we wonder why eating disorders are so rampant among young women and girls. Sheeesh!!!

12:45PM PDT on Sep 12, 2011

er......did I imagine it, or did some numbnuts describe a girl weighing 129Lb as HEFTY??? And it appears that she is, in addition, 5'8"....I calculate the correct weight for a woman of this height is anything between 140-150lb.........I am pig-sick of this crap.........may I remind SOMEONE (ANYONE) that this was a BEAUTY competition?? What is beautiful about a physique like a box of coat-hangers- with or without enormous artificial plastic tits???

As to those who say a contract is a contract... If the governors of WI, OH, FL, AL, Etc. can ignore their contractural obligation why can't this young lady?

how much did the girl gain,50 lbs.?

7:47AM PDT on Mar 29, 2011

Has this pageant's legal department consulted any pediatricians about the no-weight-gain rule that they have written into their contract? Do they actually expect a healthy child to to restrict nutrition for a year in order to remain the same size so that the contract is satisfied? We may use terms like tween and teen and young adult, but what they are is CHILDREN. They GROW. In the year between 17 and 18, a normal teen will gain weight simply because their muscles and bones thicken and body fat develops as a normal part of the maturing process. While the article doesn't state how much the teen gained, it is unreasonable to demand that a teen-aged child remain the same weight or same measurements for a year.
