Success! Shell Blocked from the Sacred Headwaters in BC, Canada

Success! Shell Blocked from the Sacred Headwaters in BC, Canada

For approximately ten years, activists have diligently worked to protect British Columbia’s Sacred Headwaters. In order to prevent oil corporation Royal Dutch Shell from drilling and fracking, organizers have held protests, concerts, educational outreaches and blockades. Karen, a representative of ForestEthics, even handed the CEO of Shell a dead fish trophy at a shareholder meeting.

The Care2 community has been a part of these efforts, too. With your help, we have sent a petition with 32,720 signatures, as well as an additional 47,599 postcards, to Shell calling for the company to leave the Sacred Headwaters alone.

It is a message with which British Columbia’s government now agrees. Officials have decided to forbid all gas and oil probes in the area on a permanent basis. Tough luck, Shell, looks like you won’t be able to destroy one of Canada’s most beautiful natural habitats in the quest for oil.

This decision will help preserve not only Sacred Headwaters’ land, but also its vulnerable species, including wild salmon, grizzly bears, caribou and stone sheep.

Alas, the activism will still need to continue since coal mines are not yet exempt in this current ban, but the gas and oil stipulations are a wonderful sign of progress and that the government understands the importance of protecting the Sacred Headwaters.

Thanks for all of your help, Care2 members!

The Shell station in Bowling Green,KY has four pumps and only one underground tank. the prices vary from the "unleaded" at one end to Premium at the other with nitrogen added. This seems like a fraud to me.
