The Secret Service is reviewing comments made by Mitt Romney supporter and National Rifle Association board member Ted Nugent after he told a crowd at the NRA’s annual meeting that “if Barack Obama becomes the president in November again I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year.”
Media Matters for America has tracked the hateful rhetoric coming from Nugent and others. For his part Nugent has never even tried to keep his political comments classy. He’s accused President Obama of having a “vile, evil America-hating administration” that is “wiping its ass with the Constitution.” At the NRA meeting he told the crows that “We need to ride into that battlefield and chop off their heads in November.”
The comments brought the as-expected outrage and attention. Nugent told CNN’s Dana Loesch that he’s standing by his statements which he described as “100 percent positive.”
Romney has refused to comment on the dust-up. Maybe’s he’s all out of outrage after manufacturing a war on moms, but you would think that given the umbrage the Romney camp showed after a perceived attack at Ann Romney that they would want to make it clear to the American public that their values do not include advocating for violence against any elected official.
