The right’s war on contraception isn’t about protecting religious freedoms, it’s about controlling women’s lives. How do we know? Members of Congress have taken to flat-out lying on the House floor with claims that the Affordable Care Act’s contraceptive coverage rule would require employers to cover pills that cause abortions. The Catholic Church openly acknowledges its end goal in picking this fight is to take out contraceptive coverage for all Americans, regardless of faith.
Launching an assault on women’s health and grounding that campaign in lies is beyond unacceptable and it hardly constitutes governing.
Here’s a great rundown of the facts and issues of this contraception debate. There’s also a video and a petition to make it clear to Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, John Boehner and every other politician playing games women’s lives. We can’t let these politicians spread lies that can cost women’s lives.

Mercedes...thanks for bringing up this point..."Contraceptives are prescribed for much more than just birth control; the treatment of serious bleeding issues, of endometriosis, of hormone issues...reliable contraception is a life and death matter for women who SHOULD not get pregnant. But God forbid you should have to learn anything about the icky stuff of menstruation, pregnancy and childbirth."
+++++++++ I've mentioned it in every one of these threads but the rabid misogynists just ignore it! It's MUCH more fun to imagine irresponsible women "spreading their legs" for "free nookie" blah, blah, blah, blah.
There are SO MANY MEN who hate women on Care2! Interesting, isn't it? SAD....but interesting.

If the USCCB wants to help write legislation, they can give up their tax-exempt status.

Oh - you mean a "war on FREE contraceptives", right?
Must be nice to expect someone else to pay for your stress free nookie huh?
Liberals - you gotta love their gall!
You are an idiot.
Well men get FREE Viagra that is paid for by someone else for your stress free nookie. Guess in your view its okay for men to get free boner meds, but not okay for women to get free contraceptives (which arent actually free). Since you dont want women using contraceptives while you bone them you should just use blow up dolls, after all, they don't need contraception.

Freedom of religion should mean that the government does not force religious groups to do things against their moral teachings. I certainly do not agree with this Catholic teaching, but it is wrong to require they disregard it. This could well lead to the end of many good social services the Catholic Church provides. How about working for a compromise?
Well then they can give back all those Gov tax $ they get for their Health Insurance policies. I find it interesting that when JFK was running for Pres all the hubbub about him being Catholic. and the fear being propagated that the Catholic church would be running the gov. and here we are today, with fright right screeching for Catholic church to run our government.
We can't let men take sole charge for bith control. Don't they like think with their little head and woman have to carry and care for the children? Woman of America have fought hard for our rights and we aim to keep them.
Steve R, your comment is totally below contempt, as usual.
No one is getting contraceptives "for free," they are being covered as a part of health insurance, which people are paying for. Said health insurance already covers Viagra, but if I suggested that health insurance should STOP paying for Viagra, so you could get YOUR 'free nookie" you would have a hysterics fit.

And there is a war on women and a war against contraception. The Repiglican candidates have all proved that. One and all, at bottom, they want to ban contraception and send women frog-marching back to 1850 when "they knew their place."
Steve R., check your fly, your ignorance is showing. Prescriptions paid for BY YOUR INSURANCE THAT YOU PAY PREMIUMS FOR are not "FREE"!! (jeez) Insurance companies will cover Viagra, so why should contraceptives (that have an obvious medical benefit) be treated differently?
Your knee jerked so hard at the thought of "liberals" that you forgot to actually read the article.
PLEASE GET BEHIND OBAMA AND TELL HIM NOT...REPEAT NOT TO TWEAK IT IN ANY WAY. THIS IS ABOUT PROTECTING WOMEN - ALL WOMEN. IF IT'S TWEAKED, TAX THE CHURCHES.
Well - I've just finished reading another of today's articles on how teen pregnancies are down, birthrates are down, abortions are down - yet we supposedly have a "war on contraceptives"???

Conservative Republicans are Nazis, and nothing else. And if people don't wake up, they will face another Holocaust.
