Sixty-five percent of all drinking water in the United States comes from rivers and streams, but many of our rivers are too polluted to use.
Unchecked industrial pollution, mining, chemical pesticides and fertilizers and hydroelectric dams all present a threat to these fresh water sources.
For the ninth year in a row, American Rivers has released its list of the top 10 most endangered rivers in the nation.
As you’ll see, the rivers listed are some of the biggest and longest and affect almost every watershed in the country, meaning almost every American is at risk.
Which polluted river supplies your drinking water?
#1 Susquehanna River
#2 Bristol Bay Rivers
#3 Roanoke River
#4 Chicago River
#5 Yuba River
#6 Green River

Cree Prophecy
When all the trees have been cut down,
When all the animals have been hunted,
When all the waters are polluted,
When all the air is unsafe to breathe,
Only then will you discover
you cannot eat money.
This is a very sad story. Other animals and plants have to go only because "we" humans do not want to share the world with other life forms, these life forms "we" would not eat (vegetarian food is not a bad idea, or eating with conscience as the so called primitive cultures did and still do, if they still exist. No meat/fish every day). "We" destroy everything around us and "we" forget, that everything is important to survive, too.
As little child i thought that rain is when God and the angels cry - because "we" humans have forgotten that we need this "intelligence", someone who could help... if "we" hadn't turned away for many centuries ago...
"Only when the last tree has been cut down; Only when the last river has been poisoned; Only when the last fish has been caught; Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten."
(Native American proverb)
"We have learned to fly the air like birds and swim the sea like fish, but we have not yet learned the simple art of living together as brothers." (Martin Luther King)
Why is it so hard to keep our rivers clean? Stop polluting.
Gotta love the short-sightedness of politicians and those who want to strip environmental protections. Not sure who to vote for next year, as both sides have now shown that they just don't care.
Intensively grazed perennial pasture can raise more beef per acre than growing grain and soybeans as row crops to feed to cattle in feed lots. Pasture should stand up to flood better than row crops.
It's time we better start cleaning up our rivers, we need them for so many reasons. Once gone we won't get them back.
This type of issue is so much more important than Global Warming but you rarely even hear about this in the news. I think we should focus our efforts on fixing these immediate problems before moving on to GW.
I don't know how we live with ourselves when we pollute what we need to survive. We are not just taking our own lives we are destroying the lives of millions of species.
thanks for the info
