I started contacting egg producers several years ago asking about the feed and conditions of suppliers facilities. I got some pretty vague answers which always tells me they don't know, care or flat out mislead. I narrowed my egg purchases down to organic suppliers but was still not comfortable with large scale ops. I now only buy eggs produced locally from people who feed non-gmo/organic feed, name their chickens, who are never caged and keep them as pets after they're laying years are over. Small ops like this can be found almost anywhere. The eggs taste better, are multi-colored, different sizes and usually a have higher yolk to white ratio. If I couldn't get eggs this way I wouldn't buy them at all, ever.

Thank you to all the rescuers!! These hens look like they are so happy to be actual 'chickens'.

Awww...one of the most horrible ways to die is from starvation, and yet seeing others die this way before you with the smell of death in the air...ugh. I can't thank all who helped enough who had a part in saving those poor hens. I will be donating and sharing the story in hopes that others will do the same

The world needs more happy chickens. Happy chickens lay the best eggs. Good for the rescuers. I hope this is not their last rescue.

I would have liked to have some of those chickens for my farm. Predators have been preying on my chickens.
