What Are GMOs & How Many US Foods Contain Them? (Infographic)

Written by Matthew McDermott, Treehugger

In light of it being GMO Awareness Month this October, and that we’ve has written extensively on the subject but never done a really succinct piece on what a genetically modified organism is, I’m passing on this infographic from Nature’s Path Organic Foods. It does a good job of explaining what a GMO is, and the current situation in regards to requiring labeling on them in food in various places around the world.

Hint: The US and Canada don’t require labeling, while many other major countries do.

Monsanto is the devil in U.S. GMO food. We lost the battle to disallow them in food stores, but labeling should be mandatory, so we consumers have the choice. Write and call your legislators.

Our government is even trying to put pressure on the UN to prevent other countries from mandating GMO labeling.

In the whole world, only america and Canada do not require labeling. And the whole world now knows that our governments do not give a shit about it's peoples wellbeing and health!
We really should vote more carefully.

Thanks for sharing this. It's sad that so much of the developed world has banned GE and GMOs and the US (and Canada) have not. BUT, Monsanto developed GE and GMOs and the Roundup and other chemicals it sells to go with it, and owns about half of our US politicians, so there you have it. I don't know what kind of presence Monsanto has in Canada.

I worry about the proliferation of groceries (at TARGET STORES, for cryin' out loud! ) Much of the groceries are, no doubt mass produced and NOT locally sourced nor organic.
