Buy wood products from companies the offer certified sustainably harvested wood.
Use a push lawn mower instead of a gas powered lawn mower.

Buy furniture from recycled or reclaimed wood.
Buy used furniture to conserve resources.
Plant trees around your home to conserve energy and increase habitat for wildlife.
Organize a "tree planting in your neighborhood. (Get city approval first.)
Start an organic community garden, or plant your own garden and grow organic vegetables.
Tell your legislators that you support protecting forests from clear-cutting, that you want more federal and state funding for parks, and want more national monuments. Avoid purchasing wood products made from old growth forests.
If you burn firewood, buy it from "downed wood" sources.
Buy recycled paper products, or buy hemp, kenaf or other tree-free paper products.
To reduce pests in your garden, plant such insect-repelling plants as basil, chives, mint, marigolds, and chrysanthemums, and use traps, parasites, and natural predators such as ladybugs. Use disease and pest-resistant plants in your garden.
Use compost and mulch to improve soil health and reduce the need for pesticides and fertilizers.
