As the mangrove forests of the Sundarbans disappear, so does hope for the endangered Royal Bengal Tiger. Over 500 Bengal tigers live in this region; a good population considering there are less that 3,200 tiger left remaining in the wild.

Two-third of the Sundarbans is in Bangladesh and one third in West Bengal, India. It is the the largest single block of tidahalophytic mangrove forest in the world, and this region is one of the largest reserves for the Bengal tiger.

The Mangrove forests are rapidly disappearing. Threats come from unplanned human developement; industrial pollution, expanding agriculture which mangrove forests are cleared and irrigation canals are constructed in their place, overfishing, coal mining, threats from offshore oli spills and deforestation all threaten the integrity of the Sundarbans.

Each of these problems is within the governments management control- it can only be destroyed if it is licenced and permitted. The Sundarbans are a critical tiger habitat and one of the few remaining natural forests huge enough to support a large number of tigers. Please do all you can to ensure the survival of the bengal tiger, and stop the human overdevelopment.
