Stop Trafficking in Girls from Vietnam due to Gender Imbalance in China!

China is experiencing a gender imbalance due to the country's one-child policy and a traditional preference for male children. Competition for marriage partners is steep, and lonely males are paying for brides from countries close to China, especially Vietnam.

These brides often have no say in the matter. For example, a teenage girl named Kiab was tricked and sold as a bride by her own brother, and spent a month trying to escape from her new husband and return to Vietnam.

This is not a way to deal with gender inequality in China. There is no excuse to take women from their native lands against their will to become glorified sex slaves for Chinese men. The Vietnamese government must stop looking the other way and must make it a priority to find and punish human traffickers.
