European Union: Wake up!

WE require a legislative change in Romania, which means that all private persons who own dogs shall neuter (if not in breeding), chip and register their dogs. We also demand that Romania as a member of EU solves the problem of stray dogs in a humane and long-term manner. All stray dogs must be neutered. Let the animal welfare organizations and associations to enter the country and cooperate and assist.

Stray dogs should not be a financial gain for private individuals, public or organizations involved in shelter activities in Romania. Close all public shelter (killing pound) or make drastic changes with trained friendly staff, insulated dog house and food and water every day. Requests licensing of individual, public or organizations involved in shelter activities and adoptions program in Romania. We also require a change in the law so that chained dogs live under better conditions. We require a longer chain, insulated dog house and food and water every day. No country in Europe should have stray dogs in year 2011.

Today, 1 March 2011 through a proposal for an amendment - which the two chambers later have to decide on. The proposal wants to legalize the killing of stray dogs and prohibit animal welfare organizations to work with TNR (trap-neuter-release) programs and they want to fine the animal friends who give them animal food.
