President Obama: Don't Let Fracking Destroy Our Communities!

Oil and gas companies are running amok as they race to expand fracking operations in dozens of states, leaving polluted landscapes, devastated communities and plummeting property values in their wake. What's more, fracking is exempt from some of our country's most important environmental protections. If you want to know which potentially deadly chemicals the frackers are pumping into the ground near your home -- tough luck! Federal law doesn't require oil and gas companies to disclose what chemicals they're using.

Sign our letter to President Obama. Call on him to build on his environmental record and put the safety of our families first by imposing strong safeguards on oil and gas drilling.
To: President Barack Obama

I am alarmed at the explosive growth of risky fracking across dozens of states and by the devastating toll it is taking on communities nationwide. Oil and gas companies are running roughshod over our health and environment, leaving poisoned water, polluted air and plummeting property values in their wake. It is shocking that fracking remains exempt from critical provisions of environmental laws such as the Safe Drinking Water Act and the Clean Water Act.

Mr. President, please build on your environmental record and put people before polluters by directing your executive agencies to impose tough safeguards on fracking operations. Please ensure that Americans no longer have to sacrifice our health, our safe drinking water and our property values for oil and gas company interests.

I also call on you to make sure that America's most beautiful and vulnerable public lands are put off-limits to oil and gas development. And please promote a clean energy future based on energy efficiency and safe, renewable sources of power that will not destroy our environment. Thank you.
