Meet Ryan A. DesJardin
Have you won any awards for your artwork? I have won some local "Best of Show" awards, and I hope to enter national competitions in the near future.
Why the interest in your preferred subject area? I have always been drawn to the outdoors. I grew up on a farm and have strong interest in our nation's history. Nature preservation is very important to me, so I like to take images which help other people appreciate nature and the outdoors in general.
How many years have you been pursuing art? 15 years of learning since I first picked up a 35mm camera. I've moved on to large format work, but I still use my 35mm camera for many projects.
How old are you? 30
Has anyone been a particular inspiration to you in pursuing art? Many photographers inspire me, some of the most inspirational are Moose Peterson, George Lepp, Barbara Jordan, and Ansel Adams. There are many, many more whose work I admire and often seek out for motivation and inspiration.
Do you do this full time, and if not, what else do you do? Photography is my most important hobby. I work full time at a 9-1-1 emergency communications center. I am also a reserve deputy sheriff.
What are your goals for your artwork (make money, be famous, have fun, change the world, etc...? Someday I would love to have my own Studio/Gallery. For the most part though I do it to have fun, get outdoors, meet people and travel. I love my full time job, so having photography as a career is not important.
Did you ever have any formal training in art? I have taken corespondence courses through the New York Institute of Photography. Other than that....nope! I am self taught for the most part. I subscribe to practially every photography magazine available and read everything I can about the craft to improve and challenge myself.
What are the two most compelling reasons someone would want to visit your website? To have fun and learn about places they may have never been or may not get the chance to visit themselves.
