It has an overwhelmingly tantalizing array of beautiful, healthful, local food, crafts, and now juice! You hardly need a grocery store after shopping there. Plus, I know so many of the wonderful farmers who sell there and enjoy catching up with them and running into nearly everyone else I know in Durham. But I have to admit, this vote was a tough choice between Durham and Carrboro, where I used to shop when I lived that side of the Triangle. Hence, my name is "Anonymous."

I love the Durham Farmer's Market! There's nothing better to do on a Saturday morning than browse for beets, kale and cantaloupes all from close-by farms. If you go there long enough you get to know the vendors and the regular customers. And did I mention the great music? It's so pleasant to walk along and listen to fabulous musicians.
It has excellent local produce, meats, and other products and is a great way for the community to gather and shop together.

It has a great selection of free range meats, plus cheese from a local dairy, plants in the spring and of course a great selection of seasonal produce.
I love this market! Owner-grown food only, lots of organic, enthusiasm and very kid-friendly. It's also the home market for SEEDS - an urban gardening project to help at-risk kids learn new, healthy skills. While our other local market in Carrboro gets all the attention, Durham tries harder! :-)

I love the Farmer's Market in Durham. It is a great location with lots of friendly vendors. I like knowing the food I buy there is locally grown and much fresher safer than what has been transported hundreds of miles or grown with pestisides. I especially love buying healthy beef, pork, and chicken at the DFM as that is much harder to find than organic fruits and veggies. Thanks DFM!!
It's the best and covers everything from veggies to eggs and meat. Better yet, the farmers are friendly and I can get most everything organic.

Durham's Farmers Market is the best because they have a wide variety of produce and meat, including never frozen chicken, beef, and lamb. Also they have arts and crafts and food tastings made from the food at the market that day. It is large enough to support our needs yet small enough to meet and talk with farmers and local people.

Fabulous meat and produce, much of it sustainably grown. Bread, plants and flowers, chocolate, soaps, candles, etc. You name it. A craft market, too. Friendly, knowledgeable local farmers. Great location. Easy parking. Centerpiece of urban redevelopment. THE place to be on Sat. mornings.
One can buy everything there, meat, dairy, fruits and veggies, bread, flowers! Good variety, good prices, great quality. Beautiful location downtown and plenty of parking.

Local organic produce, meats and cheese taste better. The lower carbon footprint due to shorter transport distance also appeals to me as well as supporting my local economy. I like knowing the names of those that produce my food as well as them knowing mine. Shopping in this manner is a much more personal experience than visiting a grocery store chain.
It has lots of choices on organic produce as well as meats and eggs. The produce is always big and fresh. They have a great central location under a canopy. I can always count on the farmers being present. I have the same farmers who are dependable and they are friendly. They also help me with any gardening questions I have and helped me start my own organic garden.

The best farmer's market that I have been to is Ithaca NY, but Durham is close, and growing, and as a Durham resident I appreciate the new pavilion and adjacent park, and the emphasis on poison-free produce and meats from small-scale growers within 70 miles of Durham, and also good local wine and excellent baked goods. The quality of produce and the facilities make it the best in the Raleigh-Durham area, including Carrboro...in my humble opinion.
A wide variety of produce and other agricultural and artists/craft products, locally produced and fresh, available Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings. The market is so thriving that more and more vendors are participating, which in turn draws more customers. The patrons range in age from newborn infants to senior citizens, and customers are regular and faithful. The location is central, on the edge of downtown Durham, and near other great businesses and attractions so that it's easy to accomplish a number of errands without much car travel. Many people are able to walk or bike to the market, meet friends, take walking tours of historic Durham, visit vendors of prepared foods, listen to live music, take a free outdoor yoga class, meander through a public garden, walk across the street to the Scrap Exchange (a local business that recycles industrial and household scrap items for artistic or other uses), walk a block to a historic feed and garden supply business and refurbished baseball stadium, walk a couple of blocks to Durham Arts Council, Carolina Theater, a downtown hotel and convention center ... there's always a lot going on. The market is also open in colder months on a more limited schedule.

Durham Farmer's market is a lively place to go, with local farmers selling their veggies, fruits, cheeses and specialty items. Artisans offer soaps, pottery, photos, and other crafts. Friends meet each other, musicians play, children play, and grassroots groups share their messages. A good place to meet new friends and neighbors.

Best vegetables and variety around for longest season
The Durham Farmer's Market has become more than a source of great, local food for us. It is a family tradition. My kids love getting a taste of cheese from Chapel Hill Creamery, the "chicken lady" where we buy our chickens every week always has a kind word for my boys, we all enjoy tastes of fresh baked bread, and each Saturday is a hunt for new treasures. This past week, we were delighted to find one of the last watermelons of the season waiting for us. Durham Farmer's Market has fair prices, and the farmers make me feel like I am back home in Appalachia.

The Durhaam Farmer's Market has absolutly the best local organic produce of this region available in a clean, entertaining area. What would I do with out FickleCreek eggs and Maple Springs Tomatoes! And don't even get me started about SEEDS and the most amazing sunflowers on earth! Summer Saturday mornings are so much fun with food, friends and music!

Great place. The farmers are awesome. If you don't know how to prepare an item the farmers are always willing to give advice. It is the best Farmers Market that I have attended. They have recently added more handicapped parking which is a BIG plus.

I love the Durham Farmers' Market because it's close, the vendors are friendly and offer great food for great prices. It lasts most of the year and even offers two different days for part of the year which is convenient. I have never seen fresh flowers last so long as the ones purchased from the Durham Farmer's Market!

It is where I go to see old friends, meet new friends, check out the eats, listen to music, and look at local art. On one morning I saw the President of Duke University, my cousin, and a labradoodle, all shopping (not together). Nothing beets this farmer's market!

Because on the weekend when I'm looking for fresh vegetables I can always go there to get them. They are in much better condition that the local grocery stores and the prices are better. I just wish the hrs could be extended.

The Durham Farmer's Market is consistently the most creative, welcoming and complete market in this area! The vendors are friendly and knowledgeable, the organizations are progressive and creative and the community that swarms there every Wed afternoon and Sat morning is some of the best in the country! Oh, and did I mention the food, produce, wears and art? AMAZING! Yeah Bull City!

I support Durham Farmers Market, because it is a great place for local farm producers to sell homegrown products they have produced. My parents when they were alive, several years ago were frequent vendors of the market. That is the way they made a living. They enjoyed the customers as well as the other vendors.

The Durham Farmers Market is a wonderful place for a variety of reasons. It's a great place to meet friends, neighbors and find a wide range of fresh foods. I most enjoy the educational aspects of the market. My kids love going and they know many of the farmers by name. I think it's so valuable that they meet the individuals who grow our food. The Vollmers had terrific berries this summer and they were always happy to see the kids. Lately, a bunch of the farmers have been saving their state quarters to help my youngest build her state quarter collection. Just a few weeks ago, Sarah, one of the herb vendors gave my daughter her first American Samoa quarter. Many of the vendors at the Durham Farmers' Market will share recipes with clients or give us a lead on a new kind of produce to taste. Today's find was a baby cucumber from Helga and Tim which was outrageously good.

The people and great healthy food. It is so easy to park and shop. The vendors are proud of their goods and redily share ideas. The atmosphere is vibrant. The colors, scents, music and convesation make it special. I love our Farmer's Market!
The vendors are wonderful carrying a wide variety of fresh local produce and other homemade goods. We have fresh baked goods, fresh eggs, local meat/pork, and a wonderful city with friendly helpful people. There is always some sort of entertainment, be it bluegrass, classical, cloggers, chili cookoffs, food tasting, or whatever. It's a great place to go on Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. There's also a great section with locally made crafts of a huge variety. You can walk there from many neighborhoods and downtown Durham with even more to do is within walking distance. It's a great Farmer's Market!!
I love the Durham Farmer's Mkt for many of the reasons everyone else does .. it's a wonderful place to buy exceptional (and local!) produce, products and crafts from very friendly and knowledgeable vendors, and it's a great way to support local and small businesses. The vegetables and fruit are always superior to anything available in local grocery stores. There is an added bonus: they have not been eaten by the deer that roam our neighborhood. The market is a great anchor for the growing Durham Central Park.
The farmer's market is a great addition to the Downtown Area.The foods are fresh and the vendors are friendly. Our downtown area is starting to have the feel of a big city and I think it's great that people who live in the area can walk to the market.
The food and the flowers are fantastic. But I think that it's the atmosphere--the music, the folk doing yoga, the diversity, the families, the picnics on the grass--that is SO Durham, and makes the market wonderful.

Because I attended Earth Day this year and learned about the Durham Farmers Market. I've checked out the market several times.... ( Ok, I must confess, I'm a Raleigh Babe, who gladly promotes Durham for all of it's cultural resources, great resturants, the DPAC,etc, etc..)
The Durham Farmer's market is a wonderful shopping experience. Additionally, the produce selection is great and the vendors are quite helpful and personable. It's all worth the 20 minute drive from my house in Raleigh to attend the spectacular Durham Farmers Market! Keep doing a great job!

I've been going to the market since it formed. At that time there were only about five vendors and even fewer buyers at any given time! I got to know the farmers as the market grew. Now my whole family loves the fresh eggs and fresh produce. You just can't buy anything like it at the store!

I am committed to buying as much as I can from the Durham Farmer's Market. I support local farmers and vendors. The food is local and therefore fresher than what I get from the grocery store. I eat more seasonably and I try new foods and recipes. I spend less money. I even got my boyfriend to eat fennel!

I've been shopping at DFM since the day it opened and seen it grow like an organic zucchini. I love my farmers, and I love knowing EXACTLY where my food came from locally, and I love it that that food is absolutely delicious and perfectly beautiful. I often have to make a photograph when I get home. I buy about 90% of everything there--vegetables, fruit, cheese, meats, eggs, bread, honey and, now, Dolly Mama's spectacular Chocolates.

This is so much more than a farmer's market - it's an extension of our wonderful community. It's a weekely reminder of what a creative, crafty, giving population we have here. There's always crafts, good music, and great people - it's like a street festival that's always happening. It also says alot that we are one of the first markets to accept food stamps.

I love the Durham's Farmer's Market. It is local, close to my home and has everything I need. It also has a great atmosphere and fun people.
What's not to support - it rules!!
It has a wide variety of produce and products, along with helpful, friendly vendors. It is a wonderful place for seeing neighbors, friends and meeting new people. Initially it was a small 'one aisle' market in a parking lot that, with community support, has since grown to a large bustling market with it's own shelter. The vendors accept food stamps which I think is great and important. It is a great place to experience some of Durham's magic.

The market has grown phenomenally and is now really awesome. The park area is really nice, and the Craft Market across the street and the local businesses complete the experience.

I've shopping at the Durham Farmers Market since if first started. It gets bigger and better every year. I love to be able to get locally grown produce and other farm products. As a former dairy farm, I applaud the opportunities now available through farmers markets for farms to market their products directly.

It is a way that we can receive fresh and healthy fruits, vegetables, and meats along with other products, like flowers, plants, herbs, pottery jewelry. Huge variety, fabulous quality, and I want to support buying locally.
I go there every week and it is so familiar, fun, and utterly fantastic I can't imagine what there is NOT to support. I can buy there nearly everything our family needs for the week, the farmers and vendors are so friendly and eager to talk about their goods, and the quality of the food is amazing. Finally, the atmosphere is superb: an L-shaped covered pavilion, and areas for kids to run around in and weekly musicians. It's my favorite of all the local markets

Consistency - and variety! I've never walked away without food that's both nutritious, delicious and grown at local farms that also supply my favorite Durham restaurants. Plus, it's in a super location, with great parking, access - and also jewelry, arts, crafts - as well as strong local community support. All you could ask for in a farmer's market. Durham is a wonderful place to live, and the Durham Farmer's Market exemplifies everything that's great about our community.
This local market has grown far and wide from its humble origins. It bustles now on Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons. Prior to its permanent shelter, farmers sold their food and wares from an old parking lot. People did come, but now it is crowded, with babies in strollers, shoppers with their reusable cotton grocery bags come for seasonal vegetables and fruits, fresh eggs, organic food, fresh cut flowers, local honey, great local artisanal cheese, baked goods, preserves, and handmade crafts. On Saturdays, there is usually live music. There is always a cooking demonstrations by local chefs as downtown Durham is growing with more and more chef-owned restaurants. The market has more potential than Carrboro’s market, and has a great deal more parking than the very limited parking in Carrboro.

The Market sits in the middle of Durham Central Park, a unique, urban,city park dedicated to the community, located in the middle of one of the most dynamic, growing areas in the country. I helped to start this market and saw it grow in the lives of the Durham and surrounding area customers and the farmers who attend. I have experienced another top market and I think that the atmosphere and divers selection as well as location all make Durham the best market in N. Carolina. Now I sell myself at two other markets in the mountains and STILL think that Durham is the best! It has dedicated farmers and customers and a true sense of community!

I love that I can walk to it from my house & it's a destination for my whole family.
We've visited some of the farms and seen the love, care, and diligence the farmers put into their farms. We also see our level of our health and energy increase in the spring and summer when we have the fresh produce from the Durham Farmers Market. We love it so much that we drive 60 miles each week to get our food there.
The Durham Farmers Market is an incredible source of beautiful produce, but is also a community, a a venue for the visual and performing arts, a place to educate children about farming and food, and a supporter of SEEDS, a non-profit community garden.

Because I live in Durham, and like the fact that the Farmers Market often incorporates a little free live acoustic music (bands, soloist, etc). Moreover, I love the cultural diversity among the farmers that show up. The new location is so lovely and shaded, so organized, great food, great community atmosphere, and downtown Durham is beautiful...we LOVE it! Esp the homemade chocolate! There is a very nice garden across the street that volunteers are busy working in on Saturday mornings, and of course like everyone else, we really believe is supporting local farmers and decreasing our carbon footprint.
I like being able to support local enterprises, as well as getting awesome food!! Seeing the same vendors week after week and trying new ones, too. Parking is easy, love the music and the overall atmosphere!
Everything there is made locally -- and tastes great. I also like that their market has vendors in the same spot every week. There are other markets around that jostle up their vendors, so you never know where anything is. Durham is just easy to shop.

DFM has a wonderful variety of vendors and a great community vibe. You always bump into someone you know or discover some vegetable you have never tried. Plus, we have the culinary genius of Phoebe Lawless (Scratch Baked Goods) and Dolly Marcarelli (DollyMama Chocolates). I looooove donut muffins!

The DFM features such diverse offerings as cheese, produce, eggs, honey, meats, flowers, plants, and crafts. Everything is local (produced within 70 miles of the market) and the food is so much fresher than what you find in grocery stores.

It's a lively and really pleasant gathering of people and market produce that allow us to get to know the people who help feed us. It's in the middle of town and thus helps provide a downtown anchor that attracts both city residents and those from surrounding areas. I've gone to larger markets but have never found a friendlier one. I love it. And so does my dog Toto (always tied to a light post to keep him from affectionately mugging the sellers and buyers). :-)

The Durham Farmer's Market brings life to downtown Durham on the weekends and has inspired the development and growing popularity of a number of other restaurants and stores that bring people together around many of Durham's historic landmarks. It's a place for people to learn, get healthy foods, support the local economy, walk for exercise, and listen to local musicians (often young people).

The purveyors have wonderful produce, dairy and meat, as well as local crafts. Durham Framers Market is top for me because it remains unpretentious. It was so small, yet persevering, for several years in a parking lot, then a school gym. Once the new pavilion reclaimed a desolate block of downtown, the market has blossomed and with it the Durham community. Our city is so much better for the life this market contributes to it.
Great local produce - best you can buy!
I've heard that the Market is trying to get a machine that reads food stamps so hopefully this money would go towards the machine, which would be really cool. One of my main issues with the market is that it has limited access to low income individuals and people who may not have a car/way to get to West Durham. In some ways the market supports the gentrification and fast growth in Durham that pushes disenfranchised groups out of the area, but I hope that the local food movement evolves to be more inclusive and that they use this money to do so.
It's definitely better than Carrboro. Better parking too.

Everything I'm looking for in a convenient location, great place to meet friends and shop for food, plants, flowers, soap, crafts... Saturday is not complete without a stop at the Scratch stand for crazy good baked treats.
The Durham Farmer's Market is great - I hope that this money is used to install EBT machines to make this community spot truly accessible to the entire community.

I love the wonderful produce I buy each week. It is earth-friendly to shop at this Farmer's Market- 1. I live in Durham, so it is not a far drive. 2. Produce is local and does not have to be shipped all over the world. 3. It does not use any energy in the summer as it is outdoors 3. Many of the vendors use compostable materials.
dfm is open to new members big and small, is inclusive, and is a welcoming place! dfm has a great diversity of product and an amazing community to support the market!
the crowds and the vendors are friendly . there is music and there are crafts if one has the time to look . the produce , the dairy products, the meat, poultry and eggs are all local and you know who you are buying it from. If it's not right they are back the following week and so are you to correct things. However that rarely happens. Its fun to run into friends, to see all the dogs and watch the interactions.

Because it provides an alternative to buy fresh local food in a city without too many other choices. There has also been substantial infrastructure investments to 'non-market' alternatives, such as the Garden of Eatin', which is a landscape planted by local activists like Bountiful Backyards and SEEDS to provide free fresh food for people in the surrounding area.
The people are always friendly, the food is great, and it's always clean and cheerful!
I can walk to it with my family. It has single handedly exploded new subsistance farming in our area. It couldn't be more essential to my family.

I've supported the Durham Farmers Market since they began operating with less than 10 vendors at the old ball park - I rely on the market for fresh produce, eggs and cheese, wonderful jams, plants and soaps, and many of the vendors and regulars have become friends over the years. The quality and the variety of produce, cheeses, etc is amazing.

You can get good vegetables at just about any market, but it takes a market like Durham to add great meat, eggs, cheese and even yogurt. It's hard to beat Meadow Lane Farm grass-fed beef, Fickle Creek Farm chicken and pork, Sunny Ridge bison, Celebrity Dairy and Chapel Hill Creamery cheeses and many suppliers of truly eggzellent eggs.

The Durham Farmer's Market is the funnest place to go on a Saturday morning. Farmers and customers wake up at the crack of dawn and are cheery and neighborly. Dogs can come along for the visit. Local fruits and veggies are available almost around the year. This is a fantastic community resource. Shh. Don't tell anyone.

The Durham Farmer's market brings positive energy to a part of town that has seen better days but has great potential for rejuvenation. The farmers who sell there are varied and top-notch, and the prepared foods are unique and out of this world. It is easy to park there and the permanent shelter that was built for the market is very nice.

The vegetables are plentiful, varied, absolutely fresh, & delicious. In addition, I can buy all my meat there, knowing it is safe and good--and the cheeses are wonderful.
Wonderful variety of the freshest produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods; lots of crafts too, and a very festive atmosphere. it's big enough but not TOO big, so it feels like a small town affair---you run into people you know, and you get to know the vendors, too.

The vendors are informative and helpful. A great way to begin your weekend along with children/babies and a variety of dogs. Often there are local chefs who prepare some of the produce for sampling. It is just a fun event and we are fortunate to have it located in our city.

Durham Farmers Market is another way to enjoy the change of seasons. I've enjoyed eating local & seasonal since it became my Saturday morning habit way back when it started. And now that it's open Wed. PM being out of town on the weekend is no problem. I do lots of holiday shopping there as well. It's the best way to start the weekend!
It used to be the Blues Festival that brought all sectors of Durham together. Now the movement towards greater sharing is being spearheaded by the Farmer's Market every Saturday. Through the love of their produce and craft, the producers/vendors are cultivating us to be more greatful friends of the earth.

I love the booth run by the Dig kids with the Seeds: "Durham Inner-city Gardeners (DIG) empowers teens by teaching organic gardening, sound business practices, healthy food choices and food security values."

We're not rich here in Durham but do we have civic pride! The "Black Wall Street" of segregation era is now a thriving multiracial community that works. The rebuilding of downtown Durham is a key part of it, and the relationship of Durham to greater North Carolina is part of the process.

It has grown! (Pun now retrospectively intended) From what used to be a lesser-known gem of a weekend gathering, it is now held in a permanent marketplace, spans weekday and weekends, and is a wonderful representation of small business in a time that is seeing many disappear. Plus, it's yummy.

Almost every Saturday morning I go to the market, walk around looking at all the beautiful produce, cheeses, cakes and muffins and breads, handmade baskets and other crafts; stop to chat with a friend or two I haven't seen in awhile, then go home and make myself a breakfast of eggs right off the nest and a fruit-filled empanada baked that morning by the smiling lady who got up at 1 a.m. to make it fresh, from scratch. Life is good!

It's within walking distance from us, in historic Downtown Durham. The vendors are all wonderful and we have no problem finding what we want, or just browsing. Also, they have fabulous musical entertainment almost any week! My husband and I are Personal Chefs and being able to purchase local produce, freshly picked and delicious, is really wonderful.

Durham Farmers' Market has top-quality (many organic, some even bio-dynamic) veggies and herbs as well as cheese, eggs, meats, fruit, nuts, breads, crafts, handmade cosmetics and pottery, wine...and I think even that broad array doesn't capture everything. It is THE best place to be on a Saturday morning in Durham, bar none. And all of the farmers are friendly, knowledgeable, and committed to serving their community. Plus there's often live music!

The Durham Farmer's Market is more than just a great market for local produce. It's a weekly event, complete with food tastings, music, and catching up with all your favorite vendors and local shoppers. It's big enough to have just about every conceivable item that can be raised locally, but small enough that you can still develop friendships with your favorite vendors.

The vendors are so friendly and helpful, even telling me receipes and how to cook certain veggies to get the most out of them. It helps me be aware of what grows at what time of year and I just love to be downtown with all the other happy shoppers. It is beautiful asthetically and there is entertainment and people sampling their products. Buying local makes me feel good.

It's great to get good food at relatively inexpensive prices. Not many cities or towns have functioning farmers' markets and Durham's is well organized, offering a wide variety of food. The people are warm and genuine and I feel we're helping one another.
They have local farmers, bakers, cheesemakers, etc. that consistently bring excellent quality food to the market and most charge reasonable prices.
You can always find something for dinner there.

Durham Farmer's Market is a wonderful space in a previously crime-ridden portion of town. It has been one of the most important aspects of downtown Durham's revitalization. It offers an affordable and convenient way for me to eat healthy, locally grown foods and support the local economy.
Fresh, gorgeous produce, meats, luxury items (Dolly Lama chocolates! hand creams!), cut and potted flowers/plants, SEEDS venue, a real 'friends and farmers' space -- and great Wed. afternoon/Saturday morning activity.

Best vendors ever! They are knowledgable and really committed to quality and serving the community. Best meats and meat products available in this area, probably anywhere in the US. The growers care deeply about their animals and guarantee them healthy, happy lives throughout their raising.
It's close enough to home to walk or bike if I choose, it supports community, and it's cool! A nice beginning to the weekend or nice midweek event to look forward to on the way home from work. I'd rather have fresh food grown locally and give my money to the farmers who grow it than to the big grocery chains with the big carbon footprints. I love the Durham Farmers Market!!

Last week I biked to market, visited with friends, bought some goat cheese and plants for my garden, and stopped by the Scrap Exchange (hard to resist!). I rode home with flowers bedecking my bike and a bag of scones from the DaisyCakes truck. That's a fine way to spend a Saturday morning!

I wish it was there 7 days a week... but w/ big fans that were energy efficient to keep us cool... and all the farmers on hand to chat about their food and other stuff ... plus the open air atmosphere... plus the closeness to Downtown Durham... oh and they're great people!

There are tons of great farmers that grow organic and pesticide-free fruit and produce. I even get heirloom variety plants for my veggie garden there, and local cheese, mushrooms, wine, bread, eggs, meat, chocolates and more.

I just got back from the Wednesday market--I always feel wealthy when I leave the market. There are so many great veggies, wonderful bread, cheese, some meats. Shopping out of doors and looking in the eyes of the person who grew the food is much better than the grocery store!
This is a mighty little market that tops any of its big cousins across the country - more local and organic than Union Square, more manageable size and concentrated goodness than Ferry Plaza. Housed in a great facility surrounded by Durham heritage, the market hits the right ratio of farm produce, baked goods and hand crafts. Above all, the Durham Farmer's Market is the heart of our great town - a feeling you can't help but notice after spending even a few minutes there.

I have watched our Farmer's Market grow over the past 5 years, and I am very proud of how far it's come. I always look forward to getting up on Saturday mornings and heading over to check it out. They offer a terrific variety of produce as well as baked goods, meat and dairy, and many arts and crafts vendors. The atmosphere is terrific!

We enjoy the market every week! We only eat grass fed meats, vegetables, fruit and nuts, so we can get a significant portion of our groceries from the market. We also enjoy frequent appearances from world-class local chefs, who do demonstrations with the available foods.

It's local and it's fresh
I buy local produce there year round. The summer offerings are fabulous, of course, but perhaps even better are the sweet potatoes, greens, and other winter ones.

It combines so many of the things I value - community connections, locally grown food, food samples made by guest chefs using local produce, music on the lawn, arts & crafts, people of all ages gathering together, a great meeting location, and open year-round!

Whatever your cause the farmers at DFM are right there with you. Year round they provide fresh healthy vegetables, meats, eggs, honeys, and a variety of other goods (a new vendor has mushrooms!). Most of the farms are at least sustainable, most go beyond sustaining. That means their farms are good for the planet (i.e. good for our continued survival), the foods are full of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, their grass finished meats are lean with a healthier fat full of beta carotene, eggs are lower in cholesterol, and most importantly every tastes wonderful!
In all my travels, I have never been to a farmer's market as awesome as the one in Durham. Good selection, freshest of the fresh.

Durham Farmers Market is unlike any other farmers market in that people from all of the Durham community shop there, not just the rich folks, to buy the best food you can possibly get. Durham is an all local market - everything from there has to be produced within 70 miles of the market. Chicken, beef, bison, wine and the best and freshest vegetables in the state of North Carolina. And such a friendly, laid back atmosphere! Everyone you talk to is chill, from the farmers to the market manager to the customers.

It has become a great gathering place for our community. It is wonderful to be able to meet the people who grow my food. There is a wonderful variety of foods and products there to choose from -- veggies, meats, eggs, bees wax candles, soaps, even locally crafted chocolate!
They have lots of vendors selling diverse items. It's a nice, covered area for shopping.

Real, honest-to-goodness local produce, great variety, enthusiastic support from city for steady improvements in infrastructure.
We know the farmers from having visited them during the CFA tours, prefer their produce and products, and enjoy our Saturday mornings with them.
We are very pleased with the variety and quality of local produce, meats, cheeses, plants, and crafts.
It's such a wonderful way to start our weekend and feed our family -- developing relationships with the farmers that grow our food and eating in the rhythm of the seasons and their bounties -- plus we run into so many friends and neighbors. Go DFM!
