Not only is it beneficial for our local farmers, but it provides fresh vegetables for our community. Wish we had even more farmers markets.

I'd rather buy fresh veggies grown from local farms than the produce shipped across country to the stores that has sat in boxes for who knows how long. Not only are the veggies fresher, most are pesticide free, and it supports a local farm/family.

Locally grown organic food is best for us and for the earth! The quality of our Farmer's Market produce is excellent and the venders are so very nice and helpful! They have a variety of times and locations that they are available to sell their goods which makes it convenient.

The best part of Lexington is the Saturday Farmer's Market. Folks come from all over the state to bring their wares, the foods they have tended, the rocks they have pulled from the mountains, the treats they have made and baked and brewed and vinted. Better than any of the cheeses, breads, coffee, fruits or vegetables are the people who are handing me the best food in the world that they themselves have tended. I am fed not only in my body from their efforts, but their friendliness feeds my soul as well. Our best asset in Lexington is our personal collections of the farmers who feed us.

I love the Farmers Market. There is a wonderful atmosphere and everyone feels welcome. The produce is wonderful and there is a great deal to choose from. Food form the market tastes so much better than from the store. I love the specialty items such as soaps and cheeses, and there is quite the selection on that as well. I really enjoy being able to support my local economy and the opportunity to buy from people who use sustainable practices.

I have supported the Farmers Market for 20 years -- starting when I lived downtown. I loved the ability to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from the farmers who worked so hard to produce them. Downtown Lexington, Kentucky on a Saturday morning with a cup of coffee, my neighbors and their kids and pooches is a great place to be.

SImply the best market in the country. I have been to Farmers' Markets all over the nation--in Los Angeles, New York, Maine, North Carolina, Connecticut, Seattle--and I have never been so impressed with the range and quality of produce and pastured meats, the commitment to sustainability and local consciousness, and the feel for community as I have in Lexington. Simply the best.

Once I received the message that if every family in our state would spend just $12 per week @ the local farmer's markets vs. the big box grocery stores, it would increase revenues in the state by over $1billion per season - I knew I had to! Lexington Farmers Market is a great expression of the best of the Lexington community. Farmers connect with suburban and downtown folks, along with entertainers, kids and masses of beloved dogs out on parade. We need to support our local farmers and at the same time supply our families with fresh healthy food. Too many family farms have been sub-divided into residential sites. These are hard times for everyone but it seems our farmers have been hit extremely hard. This is a small thing we can do to support them and a very smart thing we can do for our family.

I believe in our local farm growers and I believe in supporting our own. We have a very proud and loyal city it seems that support our farmers as well. It is very important that we stand beside those that provide for us in our own community instead of reaching out to other places. For those who have not been to Farmers Market you don't know what your missing. You can't beat the freshness! :)

The farmers and vendors at the Lexington Farmers Market have introduced me and others to a wide variety of outstanding produce and meats, while making it possible to completely avoid the mainstream grocery stores (particularly their produce sections) during the majority of the growing season. The growers who come to Lexington are knowledgeable, friendly, and provide the opportunity to purchase nutritious, beautiful food five times a week!

I started going to this market when I was going to UK in the 90's. My parents moved to Lexington about 10 yrs ago. I introduced them to the market and they've been going ever since. Even though I've been living in a different city for the past 6 years, I always make several trips to the Lexington Farmer's market because of my relationship with the farmers there, and the quality of produce.

Every year Lexington, KY's farmer market grows and shows greater dedication to promoting high quality local foods. I've moved away from Lexington in recent years, but still often make the 45 minute drive on Saturdays or Sundays to stock up on fresh goodies. Lexington's Farmers Market is providing an outstanding example for other Kentucky towns just getting in on the farmers market game!

Children don't learn because of what we say, but rather what they see us do. Families that bring their children and even the family dog to the Farmers Market each week, are teaching lessons that will last a lifetime. Lessons about caring where your familiy's food comes from, about commerce, about community and the things that make Lexington such a special place to live. Class will be in session again this weekend!

I make an effort in mine & my husbands diet to include as many whole & raw foods as possible. Having a local farmers market enables me to accomplish this goal as well as support my local community. Locally grown & produced products taste better & are better for you! Lexington Farmers Market offers a wide variety of goods including organic meats and eggs. A wide variety of vegetables, fruits, berries, wine, salsa, cheeses, and even chocolates are available from local farmers & producers. Our local market is available 5 days a week at 4 locations around Lexington. I feel blessed to be part of a community with such a strong organization as this market available to the public.

The Leximgton Farmers Market has become a favorite to my eight year old daughter and my six year old great nephew. They look forward to it every Saturday to pick out their own fruits and vegetables. This year is the first year my nineteen year old son has gone and now he beats me up every Saturday to go to the market. My husband and I enjoy this outing with the family and its a healthy education experience for the young one. We even go to the one on Maxwell street.

This market is so unique to be held in one of the most historic parts of Lexington, in front of the old courthouse where in the 19th century slaves were sold! (hey! it's the south remember?) It is where in the old days folks from all over central Kentucky came to sell their wares and produce and here we are in the 21st century repeating that! Besides the best fresh food ever (the tomatoes ROCK !) there are yummy baked goods, homemade soap, fresh honey, herbs, flowers, and always a couple of live musicians playing guitars and singing. It is so friendly, people actually meet there on Saturday mornings just to catch up on the latest news with their friends. Lots of folks walk their dogs around it too. This is not the biggest farmers market I've ever been to but it is the best. Love the selection of vegetables and fruit and love how friendly everybody is!

The Lexington Farmers Market is THE ONE thing that goes acrooss ALL boundary - gender, race, class, soci-economic, age - lines to draw people to downtown. Absolutely nothing else in Lexington, as well as Central Kentucky, has that kind of drawing power. The Market does a great job of representing the very diverse culture of Kentucky, with vegetable farmers, cheese makers, garlic farmers, olive oil importers, local wine makers, coffee roasters ....the list goes on, and there is truly something to meet everyone's need. The people that shop the market come out not just to pick up food supplies for the week but to socialize and hear local musicians playing in amongst the vendors. It's a great way to spend the morning or afternoon.

I work for a small, family-owned restaurant that supports the local farms by using their produce. It's nice to be able to tell customers that the food they are eating was harvested from a farm down the road. I love visiting with the farmers, and supporting their efforts. I worked at the market one summer, and also picking peas, beans, etc.. It was the hardest work I ever did, and my appreciation for these hard working people who feed us such delicious and beautiful food is very high. I also am greatly impressed with the expansion, in both breadth and depth, of the market and its offerings. It is sooo much fun to go, see friends, and feast my eyes upon the beauty of food that was just a day ago growing on a vine or stalk somewhere! There is a festive atmosphere, and a feeling of being connected with nature and the things that really count -- friends, good work, and home grown beefsteak tomatoes! !Go Farmer's Market!

Our Lexington Farmer's Market is a marvelous opportunity to buy fresh produce, and enjoy it's friendly atmosphere. The growers have excellent produce, and other farm products. They are helpful and friendly. Our market gives us several different days of the week and locations in accessible places in Lexington to shop. I'm grateful for our local farmers who bring us fresh affordable produce, some organic produce, and a chance to meet old friends and make new ones. Elizabeth Hagan

The Lexington Farmers Market is well-established. It is more than just a market...it is an event! Most of the growers have been a part of the market for many years. I support the Lexington Farmers Market because I prefer fresh produce. Who doesn't? If I can get tomatoes that were picked the day before and were grown in KY soil, who would pass that up? Seriously? It's also a great thing to do on a Saturday morning. The food, the people and the atmosphere make for a spectacular morning. I love that my kids can go to the market and see where food actually comes from. They have learned that food is not just cans/boxes on a shelf at the store. They have learned about the different varieties of tomatoes, corn, beans, etc, directly from the farmers in the area. They also have been learning the importance of eating fresh foods free of hormones and chemicals. So in addition to great tasting fresh foods, I believe the farmers market can be a teaching aid for the generations to come and will help our children make healthier eating choices as they grow.

It would be easier to come up with a list of reasons why I don't support the Farmers' Market, as there are none. From a selfish viewpoint, i support the market because it is the best place to buy locally grown, fresh produce and meat. i like getting to know the people who grow my food. I like supporting the economy of family farming. I like keeping green space green, which helps focus development away from rural land, preserves a healthy system of waterways, absorbs carbon from the air and keeps our beautiful state one of the most beautiful spaces on the continent. I like the civic event of going to the market, seeing so many of the citizens of our community. I love the new space: it is a gorgeous example of old lexington that makes one feel a part of a town with history and reminds us of the beauty of so many of our downtown buildings. If I were to take a visitor to the market on Saturday they would invariably remark that Lexington is a beautiful city. The feedback loop of civic mindedness and environmental awareness and the connection between the rural landscape that surrounds Lexington and the urban environment of the city is one that can only accrue to long term advantage of the entire community.

It's a fantastic market-- I've visited markets in cities 4x the size of Lexington (Vancouver, Austin, Houston) and they don't measure up. Lex has great variety, friendly folks, and it brings people downtown. Many markets specialize in specialty items, with stands selling a single good, like chicken or honey. At Lexington's market, you can shop for the whole week, get a diversity of local, natural, and organic products, and at great prices. It is truly special!

Lexington has one of the best Farmer's Markets of the east. With the downtown location open on Saturdays and the Southland Drive location on Sundays, there is no excuse for Lexontonians to get their fair share of veggies! Many vendors (farmers and processors) at our fabulous market have become my teachers. I have learned from them about the ways sustainable and organic practices benefit our soil, air, and water, while also producing the must luscious foods with the most delicious flavors. Our market also allows sales of non-local, non-organic, and non-seasonal foods. I have actually some to like that policy, though I buy non-local or non-seasonal foods. I believe a non-preachy, open approach attracts more of my neighbors to the market, where they come in contact with the wonders of sustainably grown foods - something that might not happen otherwise.

Somehow it fit in with the vibe of the area, only adding to its charm. The venders we spoke with were knowledable and appreciated having a Northerner like me take an interest in their activities. The produce was yummy. I have a beatifully painted gourd that I bought that still brings back nice memories of the afternoon there.

Here are a few reasons: 1. It is fun to shop at The Farmer's Market. 2. No one has to "fly" the food in from some other country -- like China..or some "tropical country" -- just to eat a banana. 3. The food tastes better. 4. It makes cooking and family time more fun and creative -- we can plan our meals around "what is available" -- that promotes gratitude! 5. Fresh grown food is better for your health -- you know (pretty much!) what you are getting. 6. Buying at the Farmer's Market helps our local economy. 7. We don't have to unwrap, unbox, thaw, and/or figure out what we have purchased. 8. In the longrun, it is cheaper. 9. It makes the world a better, happier, healthier place -- to shop at The Farmer's Market. 10. It makes the future brighter. 11. It is the right thing to do.

Great people; just-picked produce at the peak of perfection; organic chicken, meat & eggs; tasty baked goods; honey, soaps, and other wonderfully wholesome goods. The liveliest place in town when it happens. Too bad it can't happen every day.

The fruits and vegetables are always fresh and delicious. The flowers are so pretty and add much to our dining experiences. The market is easy to get to and their is ample parking.

The farmers and sellers are warm, welcoming, and helpful. The food is reliably fresh and plentiful. The place (on Cheapside in downtown Lexington on Saturdays) is fantastic! Parking is free, close, and readily available. Musicians of all ages and backgrounds entertain us. The fellowship is free and longlasting. I look forward to going whenever I can, and I enjoy sharing the bounty with family and friends.

Local food, great taste, know the folks who grew the food - most are organic. Good for the economy and body! Support your local farmers and get REAL food!!!!!

Several true farm families came each Saturday & had great fresh vegetables for sale. When Market first opened years ago, I went each week to buy tomatoes, green beans, etc.

Nothing is better than fresh fruits and vegetables. On top of having what I consider the best produce around, you get to hear a variety of live music entertainment. You can also bring your four-legged friends with you as long as they are well-behaved. So you get to get out with your family and pets, get some great fresh grown foods, sit and listen to bluegrass, jazz or whoever is playing all while eating a shredded BBQ pork sandwhich (their are other options, that's my favorite.) How does it get better than that? Then you go home and fix fresh stuffed green peppers, sweet white corn, tomatoes, and the best cantalope you have had all year. Oh yea, there are even booths where you can buy foods and treats for your pets that are healthy for them and they love it. That is why I love our farmers market.
