great veggies, fruits, flowers, coffee, bread, a variety of personal items, pet treats, honey, fish, meat, eggs, a variety of awesome prepared foods, snacks, tea, music, crafts n jewelry. we have our regular vendors that have become friends and those who share their time with other markets. then there are the"people." those that bring their wears and those come to buy, browse, socialize and be in a green environment.

I grew up going to a Farmer's Market in my hometown, Yellow Springs, Ohio. I looked for the first two years in Jax for a market the compared to home...one with fresh fruits/veggies, organic meat and dairy, arts and crafts, music, and a small town feel. That is what the Beaches Green Market offers...a small town feel.

Such a great atmosphere. I love being able to pick up fresh everything on Saturday for a get together that night and Sunday morning brunch - seafood, veg, eggs, coffee. I always leave having found something new.

The produce is fresh and extremely tasty. The organic gardeners are very experienced and helpful and generous about sharing their knowledge. Buying locally means the food lasts longer, tastes better, and hasn't used as many fossil fuels to arrive on my table.

great community market that also hosts various green workshops and gives the community a chance to be involved with the community garden. 2 blocks from the ocean and on the outskirts of a local's favorite park-it just doesn't get any better than this!

I love supporting local farmers and other alternatives to the large chain supermarkets. The Beaches is special because they are selective in who they allow so there are no weight loss pills stands parading as "healthy" or "green." Just farmers, local food and great green buying options.

The founder puts out a great weekly e-mail newsletter about "green" activities and important issues in the community. They sponsor helpful gardening classes. I find it inspiring to walk around the community garden and get ideas for mine. I look forward to my weekly visits and have brought friends along so they learn that its worthwhile!

There's been a wealth of knowledge passed on to the public from this market, not to mention the awesome food!!! It's also next to our community garden which serves as a learning tool for the visitors at the market. Gretchen and Jonathan have done an awesome job and put in so many hours. They are truly dedicated to informing the public about locally grown food, organic food, pesticide, hormone-free and the environment. This market has brought together not only people from the nearby beaches but in town and even from St. Augustine and Amelia Island. It's not only about the food, the wealth of knowledge but bringing people together and they've accomplished that. Thanks to all that have helped make this market what it is today. Linda Gibson

I support the Beaches Green Market because it is all around a fantastic addition for the local community. Everyone wins with this market, farmers, shoppers, local artists, even people who don't visit the market get to enjoy the sights of tents, people and food as they drive by. The market has also harbored the creation of a community garden right next door. What could be better than that?

It is so wonderful to be able to pick up local FRESH fruits and veggies. I like it that I can only get what is seasonal - I'm never quite sure what that's going to be, so my Saturday shopping dictates what I'll eat for the next week. One thing that I know will be consistent - the freshness and flavor. Thank you to the growers for all their efforts!

How can you not? The food is incredibly fresh and varied and is not the "same old, same old" as you find at most markets. In addition, the vendors are very knowledgable and eager to share information regarding nutrition and preperation so that the texture and flavor are optimal. It is such a pleasure to know the source of your food and how it was grown. Since the market opened, the only reason I go to a traditional grocery story is for dry goods.

It is a wonderful place to get outside, meet your fellow locavores, help the local farmer and get great food. I love getting to chat with the farmers and see what is going on with them personally and on the farm, looking forward to the seasonal fruits & veggies. There is live music, jewelry/pottery, seafood, kettle corn/shaved ice, homemade cheese, breads, herb plants, local businesses, the list goes on (plus I can't wait to see who will be there next). They even offer farming classes. The people who run the market really put a lot of time into the market and making sure it is locally grown as well as keeping us informed of what is going on with produce/food in general (at our grocers). One of the more unique/awesome things is they have created a community garden where we can grow our own food locally/organically and our weekly contributions and vendors that come help support this community garden! Thanks Gretchen for putting an awesome market out there and educating us as well as the community. :)

It offers our community a place to connect and grow together. I have learned about exciting new foods, growing practices, regional farms and local businesses. When i go to the market I see friends and families of all ages enjoying fresh squeezed grapefruit juice, homemade bread, organic blueberries and local arts. As a market goer, I also enjoy live music by local and touring artists as well as an afternoon stroll through the neighboring organic community garden where i also have a plot. With so many edible options and unique gifts as well as household and body products, it's become my one stop shop I can't miss! Kudos to The Beaches Green Market.

Truly local, and what a great community get together every Saturday. The vendors are real farmers that grow fun heirloom varieties and teach customers how to prepare and eat them. Knowing the different nuances of zucchini or tomato varieties, and even advice for the home gardener. And did I say everything is locally grown? Well it is.

The Beaches Green Market not only provides the Beaches area with super-fabulous product, it also has afforded us a greater sense of community togetherness, in a city that is increasingly suburbanized and cloistered. I look forward to every Saturday afternoon, because you never know who you'll run into there. Gretchen and Jonathan (and all the folks) have really brought a positive influence to a very conservative and bit repressed county. The market has inspired others in Jacksonville to dare to step outside the Big Grocery Box!

While most "farmer's markets" here in the area are really just people selling conventionally grown produce from well known brands such as Dole, Beaches Green Market only sells locally grown produce and also has music, handmade soap, crafts, baked goods, etc... It's a wonderful place to spend a Saturday.

Its an amazing market- all the produce is truly locally grown (you can meet the friendly farmers and ask them gardening Q's too!) and it has locally produced value-added products too such as homemade all-natural soaps and locally blended all-natural teas. No flea-market cheezy stuff here! (Yea!) Also, the group that runs the Beaches Green Market also offers gardening workshops and their weekly e-letter also offers yummy recipes I use with all the local produce & herbs from the market. This is my favorite market!!!

And I love shopping at the Market! Such a variety of wonderful "stuff" to choose from. All the way from beautiful orchids, to organic coffee, to basil plants, to produce, to fresh fish and more. I feel so fortunate to have Beaches Green Market in my neighborhood. And P.S. It's great to meet and greet lots of people you know... Niki LaMont.

You can rely on them rain or shine. Part of a whole system supporting local farming. This market is right next to a vegetable garden where people can "rent" (it is free) a parcel to grow their own vegies. They promote growing food in your own backyard and they have a stand at the BEACHES GREEN MARKET where they tell you how.

A friend told me about the market but I was drawn to the Beaches Green Market by a fantastic e-newsletter that was written by Gretchen Ferrell for the Market. In a delightfully positive and equally passionate fashion, Gretchen described all of the farmers coming to that Saturday's market and what they would be selling. We went to the market that Saturday and were immediately hooked by the quality of the produce, the wholesome community atmosphere and our overwhelming desire to support these local farmers, who are so committed to providing quality produce and products. We stop by the market every Saturday that we're home. The quality of the market matches the quality of the newsletter and now we read Gretchen's email every Thursday. The newsletter is a wealth of information on the "locature" and organic scene locally and globally and has us even more hooked on supporting the Beaches Green Market. Fantastic. Thanks and keep up the great work, Gretchen et al!! Sandy and Doug

I've lived here for 11 years, and it's the first successful market in a short time to offer fresh produce, fruit, and dairy products among other non foods as well. I prefer to buy from farmers where I know the source of the food not from commercial operations where contamination contiues to be in the news in many of our food products. We strive to make this market succeed by our patronizing it weekly.

Because the message behind the market is beautiful. We have the power to chose to support ourselves and our local farmers through their efforts, and we can learn from them how to grow our own small harvests. Plus Gretchen is so inspiringly dedicated to making the market the best it can be, it has turned into a beautiful meeting ground for the beaches.

The Beaches Green Market has become an invaluable asset for Neptune Beach, the Jacksonville Beaches as a whole, and for my family and me. I go without fail every weekend, through the winter months too, to buy fresh, local, seasonal produce. Our diets have changed because of it. We eat what's in season in our area, and feel healthier. Also, each week the market sends out super informational newsletters, and supports a community garden. It's amazing how much this small operation has affected my life in a positive way.

I support my local Beaches Green Market for many reasons. One it is healthy, local, organic, fresh foods for me to nourish my body with. 2nd it has created such a sense of community seeing old friends and new friends each week. 3rd I believe it is important to support our local farmers that are not mass producing. I grew up in the North near CAFOS (Confined Animal Feeding Operations) and we constantly are fighting for environmental, our health, quality of food produced, and more in these areas. These mass "factory farms" are not what my grandfathers, and great grandfathers did, nor is it "food" that I want to consume. My dollar speaks volumes and I will continue to spend it with local farmers. There are so many more reasons to support it, but it is just a blessing to our community.

I support my Beaches Green Market for as many reasons as I can count. The produce, flowers, cheeses and pleasant vendors make even the hottest Saturday Florida afternoon very special. We have longed for a local green market ever since we became very spoiled shopping for local produce in the mountains of North Carolina. And, we are so appreciative of the efforts of all who make our market and gardens work, we try to spread the good news to one and all in order to support their hard work and dedication.

The market has brought the community together and works hand and hand with an organic community garden literally feet away. Not to mention they have everything that you could ever need, from fresh local seafood to organic snow cones!

Since the inception of this Green Market there has been happier, healthier beach folks.Iam not at the beach but about 7-8 miles away and make the trip as it is worthwhile for the fresh, pesticide free veggies, fresh cheese and bread. They have educated the community with classes and started a community garden.Praises to them to get this started. Now there are even more markets in the area. However, this is the best!

With humble beginnings, Gretchen and the Beaches Green Market have proven themselves to be the model market. Too many markets don't have standards; this one does. They are very choosy in who they allow to join; prefer organic offerings and true farmers; and offer full disclosure so consumers know exactly what they're purchasing. In addition, they care! They have a garden for school children, and do workshops to show kids how to grow their own food. They offer workshops, teaching people how to do it on their own. I couldn't ask for a better market.

Beaches Green Market stays true to the "Farmers Market" concept as it limits itself to selling produce from small farms. One is usually buying directly from the farmer. In our area a Farmers Market is a rarity abd this one exeeds expectations with a great selection of produce and a wonderful sense of community. It is wonderful to see something like this happening in our area!

The small market "walks the Talk". Not only do they have and support organic vendors at the market, but they have a designated community garden area for the residence of the area to grow their own food. They are always giving classes on organic gardening and bring in experts to give talks. It is a quite friendly market where people feel a real sense of neighborly sharing.
