Love Your Farmer's Market Contest

Shopping outdoors, buying from local farmers and local, home businesses and meeting and talking to people from my community every week in the summer is so enjoyable.

Buying locally helps reduce our carbon footprint and supports good food. It also frees us from dependence on Big Business farms.

It's so important in the current economy to support our local businesses and farms. ..and I love getting everything from fresh seasonal produce to jams to fresh caught Lobster at the market

I enjoy spending my money on my neighbors' products and getting fresh produce, delicious homemade baked goods and local wines.

I much prefer to by fresh produce, and when I can buy from friends here in town, well, it just doesn't get any better than that!

It's been great to see that the local farmers and other local people have a place to display and sell their wares. Northwood is a small town without a "center of town," and the farmer's market gives us a place to gather at the same place and time besides the Transfer Station.

We do not have a community farmers market and the response to having our own has been ovewhelming. The location is perfect - on the corner of Rt 4 and Rt 43, at the only stoplight in town, The other three corners of this intersection are places where people stop frequently: the Northwood Library, a Shell station and the Norheast Credit Union which allow the people who frequent the Farmers Market to conveniently run other chores at the same location. There are many farmer's markets which have Saturdaay hours, which competes with people's long list of Satuday activities. I think it as a brilliant idea to overlap hours with commuters reeturning home from work! The Northwood Farmers Market, as a new group, would use the grant money wisely, as they organizers are people already vested in this community and involved in several community projects.

This is such a valuable asset to the community! The market has an eclectic assortment of vendors and has been very well received not only by Northwood but by the surrounding communities as well. It has a great location on Route 4 which is a major commuter corridor between Concord and Portsmouth. I love being able to purchase fresh, locally produced food at such a convenient location. I stop in EVERY Thursday and am never disappointed. This market is vital to the local economy and especially to the economy of Northwood!

The Northwood Farmers' Market is just starting its second year. The organizers have done a magnificent job of recruiting a wide variety of participants. It's great to see a focus on locally produced food and related items, and to see the community turn out so enthusiastically to support it. It's a great little market.

I love the sense of community that the Farmer's Market has brought to Northwood. Northwood is a town that covers a broad geographic area without a real "town center" - the Market has given the town a place to gather regularly, in addition to choose healthy, local food options!

I know people involved and know they feelstrongly about the market and hope to help the community with frest produce at a good price.

The NOrthwood Farmers Market provides the locals and summer visitors to the many lakes in town fresh area grown produce plus, plus, plus it is a true asset to the Town.

Saves energy and transportation costs for the food as it is direct to consumer; Northwood Farmers Market has been an energizing force for growers and community spirit in general. The market has been a tool to educate about the value of fresh food and provides a diverse selection of wholesome foods to the consumers. I love it!

Northwood Farmers Market is an example of a community working together to benefit its members. Not only do they benefit from eating food that is as fresh as it can be, but the hours put into its establishment and maintenance are examples of selfless volunteerism. At a grassroots level, $5000 will go a long way!

The Northwood Farmers Market started last year through the efforts and volunteer hours of work put in by concerned and responsible citizens of Northwood. I support local initiatives like this one in my own city and when I visit my sister in Northwood I love to go with her to support this great initiative. A prize of $5000 could go a long way in helping this market continue to get itself established so that it is there for generations to come.

It is a worthwile project.

Local farmers' markets are incredibly important to the health and ecomony of the community and are great for the environment in which we raise our children. They help to keep all of us rooted.

In this economy, it is even more important to grow our food locally. The quality of the vegetables are much better than in the stores and I would much rather support our local farmers.

I look forward to Thursdays when I can purchase locally grown and prepared foods and health care products. I love meeting the people who have prepared my food with care and meeting neighbors and friends in a festive atmosphere. Tons of variety in a small local market atmosphere.

Local vendors, great variety of products including so far, chocolate to eggs, chicken, strawberry, greens, pies, soap, bread, wine and sometimes fish! Under maple shade trees serenaded by local musicians. Plenty of parking, great accessibility. Who could ask for more!

I wanted to support my local growers and producers, know where my food is coming from, and help build a sustainable environment, so I helped organize this market and I LOVE IT.

It's full of healthy local produce, held close to the grocery store for convenience, and I someday hope to grow my own herbs/produce to help support/expand the market in the future!
