Berlusconi: You Can Stop Violence Against Libyans

  • by: Care2.com

Libyan ruler Muammar el-Qaddafi has ruthlessly cracked down on citizens demonstrating for democracy and freedom. Qaddafi has unleashed militiamen and even employed mercenaries to hunt down Libyans in opposition to his autocratic rule.

After just a week, 300 people are dead. The death toll could be as high as 1,000 people.

The international community has condemned Qaddafi's appalling reaction to the democratic uprising -- except Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, who has a close, personal friendship with Qaddafi. Berlusconi has stated he doesn't want to "disturb" the long-time dictator.

Berlusconi urged Qaddafi in a phone call to avoid civil war, but he needs to make a stronger statement against the massive violence. Berlusconi's friendship puts him in a unique position to influence Qaddafi. Tell Berlusconi to strongly denounce violence against Libyan protesters and defend their human rights.
Dear Prime Minister Berlusconi,

You have a unique and important relationship with Libyan ruler Muammar el-Qaddafi. Please use your friendship to influence Qaddafi to end the appalling violence against his people.

[Your comments will be added here.]

The world must unite to pressure Qaddafi to uphold the human rights of his people. Please stand up for peace, nonviolence and human rights and use your influence to stop the violent crackdown in Libya.
