Tell The EPA To Get Its Facts Straight: Fracking Is Dangerous!

Lisa Jackson, Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, recently testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about domestic energy policy and production.

During her testimony Jackson pleased Republicans and their industry supporters by stating that she was "not aware of any proven case where the fracking process itself" had affected water.

Apparently, Jackson has never met the president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, who admitted publicly that fracking has contaminated local drinking water supplies in Pennsylvania.

And lastly, Jackson must never have heard of Duke University, which recently published a peer-reviewed scientific study which linked natural gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing with a pattern of drinking water contamination so severe that some faucets can be lit on fire.

Jackson's statement is ill-informed and shocking considering if comes from the head of a government agency tasked with protecting Americans from industry pollution.

Misinformation like this only puts the American people in danger.
We, the undersigned of this petition, hereby request that you publicly retract and apologize for the misleading statements you made about hydraulic fracturing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

During the hearing, you told a Republican from Pennsylvania that you were "not aware of any proven case where the fracking process itself" had affected water.

Apparently you haven't been paying attention.

Earlier this year, the president of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, who admitted publicly that fracking has contaminated local drinking water supplies in Pennsylvania.

As a result, Pennsylvania governor Tom Corbett who ordered gas drillers to stop taking fracking wastewater to public water treatment facilities.

And just weeks ago, Duke University, which published a peer-reviewed scientific study which linked natural gas drilling and hydraulic fracturing with a pattern of drinking water contamination so severe that water from some  faucets in America can be lit on fire.

Please demonstrate that you are indeed capable of acting in the best interest of the environment and the American people by admitting that you made a mistake, and committing yourself to complete, unbiased education regarding the dangerous practice of hydraulic fracturing.

Thank you,
