Help Save Medicine Bow National Forest!

Stretching across Southeastern Wyoming, the Medicine Bow National Forest showcases the spectacular natural beauty and diversity of life found only in the West.

Unfortunately, as the National Forest Service reconsiders its plan for the Medicine Bow, areas such as these may soon be threatened. If the Forest Service chooses to adopt a plan that makes room for aggressive clearcutting and extensive backcountry motorized access, wildlife corridors for elk and deer would be cut off, and the pristine quality of hundreds of thousands of acres of forest would be diminished.

Here are the two most likely alternatives. Most conservation groups working on the Medicine Bow believe that Alternative F strikes a balance between the industrial interests in the forest and the ecological needs of the wildlife that depend on the forest for survival.

Alternative D
Alternative F

Dear Ms. Peterson,

Please accept the following comments on the draft Medicine Bow National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan.

I am very concerned over some of the areas which were not protected in this plan. In particular, we urge you to protect areas such as Snowy Range, Vedauwoo, East Fork Encampment, Sandstone Canyons and the Middle Fork as wilderness areas in addition to the two you have proposed Rock Creek and Laramie Peak. We are particularly concerned that Vedauwoo and Snowy Range, two of the most popular non-motorized recreation areas in the entire state of Wyoming will not receive adequate protection in this plan. Please make Alternative F your preferred alternative.

I am also concerned that the forest service will continue to permit snowmobile use in the roadless areas of the Medicine Bow National Forest. I urge you to close all roadless lands to this type of motorized use.

Sincerely,
The Undersigned
