Help Save Medicine Bow National Forest!

Stretching across Southeastern Wyoming, the Medicine Bow National Forest showcases the spectacular natural beauty and diversity of life found only in the West.

Unfortunately, as the National Forest Service reconsiders its plan for the Medicine Bow, areas such as these may soon be threatened. If the Forest Service chooses to adopt a plan that makes room for aggressive clearcutting and extensive backcountry motorized access, wildlife corridors for elk and deer would be cut off, and the pristine quality of hundreds of thousands of acres of forest would be diminished.

Here are the two most likely alternatives. Most conservation groups working on the Medicine Bow believe that Alternative F strikes a balance between the industrial interests in the forest and the ecological needs of the wildlife that depend on the forest for survival.

Alternative D Alternative F (Forest Service Preferred Alternative) (Conservation Groups Preferred Alternative) 60,859 acres for Wilderness 271,357 acres for Wilderness Allows 3,500 truckloads of timber a year(with clearcutting) Allows 650 truckloads of timber a year(prohibits clearcutting) 760,000 acres of the forest is open to cars & off road vehicles (including snowmobiles). 652,000 acres of the forest is open to cars & Off road vehicles. Snowmobiles are limited to travel on existing roads and trails. No Wildlife Corridors. Designates 208,846 acres as Wildlife Corridors.
