Make Combating Climate Change a Global Effort!

Negotiations are taking place on a new Kyoto treaty. The focus of those negotiations has been on limiting carbon emissions. But we need to make sure the agreement also includes funding to help developing countries adapt to climate change.

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change meets again in June to work toward a framework for December's critical Copenhagen Climate Conference. And for the new Kyoto Protocol to work, every country in the world must come together to address climate change. That includes the world's poor, especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Climate change is clearly not a crisis of Africa's making, yet the consequences of global warming will disproportionately hit Africa's poor.

Rich countries have an obligation to immediately curb greenhouse gas emissions and help Africa avoid the worst effects of climate change. Sign the petition to Yvo de Boer, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, who is chairing the next round of negotiations in June, urging the proper funding for all countries suffering the effects of climate change.
Dear Yvo de Boer,

In the negotiations for the Copenhagen Climate Conference, please advocate for sufficient adaptation funding for countries currently suffering from the effects of climate change.
