A teenage Indian girl fought against her assailants for 45 minutes while they tore her clothes off, burned her with cigarettes, and molested her. This all took place five minutes from the nearest police station in Guwahati, one of the biggest cities in northeast India. Onlookers made a video of the incident rather than calling the police.
Civil rights and women's rights activists are up in arms for good reasons and have taken to the streets of Guwahati in protest. They are calling for better protection of women and girls in the Assam region where other women have been assaulted with impunity and little to no interference from police.
It also appears that a broadcast journalist may have incited the attack, calling for the girl to be assaulted on the air waves.
Tell Guwahati police and government officials to locate and prosecute all criminals involved in this attack and protect Indian women better in future!
