China: End Violence Against Sex Workers!

Sex workers are being abused in China.

Police are beating, torturing, and assaulting women. Because they refuse to investigate crimes, rapists of these women and other perpetrators are allowed to go free. Women are being sent to detention centers just because they are "suspected" to be sex workers -- there is no due process or trial.

Women, after being tested for HIV/AIDS, have their results sent to third parties or displayed to other people. Sometimes they never even see their own results. They are treated harshly by health services and penalized when they come into public health places that work with law enforcement.

There are 4 to 6 million sex workers in China. It is time for China to end violence against sex workers and instead work to protect their rights!

Dear China Government,

Sex workers in China, which there are around 4 to 6 million, are being treated extremely unfairly. Law enforcement are beating, torturing, and assaulting women. They won't investigate crimes against them -- including rape -- and put women into detention for years without due process or a trial. Sex workers are treated as if they have no rights.

Women getting tested for HIV/AIDS have their results displayed for everyone to see or have them given to third parties -- sometimes they never even see their own results. They are also penalized when they come into public health places that work with law enforcement and treated badly.

This is wrong and needs to change. Please end violence against Chinese sex workers and work to improve their situation.
