Out of Control Tar Sands Leak! Call for Open Access to Media

A brave whistleblower has released news that a Tar Sands spill in Alberta, Canada is “unstoppable,” leaking into pristine lands around Cold Lake, devastating thousands of acres of forestland, killing animals, plants, and encroaching into indigenous lands. An unprecedented disaster in the Albertan highlands.

The company behind this, Canadian Natural Resources, is trying to keep the spill out of the spotlight. They don’t want attention because the truth - that Tar Sands oil is the dirtiest fuel on the planet, and that rural Alberta is becoming an environmental wasteland. That’s why reporters, locals and environmentalists are all not being allowed into the spill regions to access the damage.

No to mention the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, still under consideration, which will dramatically increase the extent of tar sands production and exports. News of this might destroy any hope for the pipeline.

We need to make sure that the public knows what’s happening. Sign this petition and call on Canadian Natural Resources Ltd to open up access to the media and environmentalists, and come clean about the extend of the spill - before it's too late.

Please sign and share with your friends - this story MUST stay in spotlight!

Dear CEO,

One of your scientists said that tar sands oil is leaking onto pristine lands around the beautiful Cold Lake region of Alberta, Canada. If this is true, why is media and NGO access being restricted in the spill sites? There is even news that no one in your company knows how to stop the leakage.

Open up access to all the sites where leakage is taking place immediately, so that we can access the damage and begin to mitigate the impact on the environment. There is no reason to hide from reality, we all know how dirty tar sands is. Now, let us begin the process of cleaning it all up. Perhaps with more minds, we can stop the damage before it ruins Cold Lake.

Sincerely,
