1. Purebred Siamese cats always have blue eyes and are cross-eyed.

4. Maine Coon cats, the biggest domestic cat breed, continue to grow in size for 3 to 4 years. True or False?

True. I have a Maine Coon Cat and for years I wondered when he would stop growing because he went from this little furball of a kitten to 10 pounds, then 15 pounds, then 20 pounds and finally, at about 4 years old, he stopped growing at 24 pounds. Yes, he is one big, fluffy — but not fat — pussycat.  He is black and white and if I had know how big he was going to get, I would have named him Orca!

5. Male and female cats who are sexually viable both spray urine to mark their territory. True or False?

True. Although, male cats spray far more often than female cats.

6. A cat can jump 8 times its body height from a standing position. True or False?

False. But cats can jump 5 times their body height from a standing position – which is still quite an amazing feat. Imagine jumping five times your height from any position!

7. Unlike the puma and jaguar, the cheetah cannot retract its claws. True or False?

True. The cheetah is the only cat that cannot retract its claws.

8. Flea treatment meant specifically for dogs can be lethal to cats. True or False?

True. Do not use dog flea treatment on your kitty! Also, keep kitty away from a dog that recently received a dog-only flea treatment.

9. Cat eye color is genetically connected to coat color.  True or False?

10. Cats cannot perspire. True or False?

False. While cats do have sweat glands on their feet, it is not an efficient cooling method. Consequently, cats can overheat very quickly and suffer heatstroke even after only a few minutes in a locked car.
