10 Inspiring People Whose Lives Began After 60

10 Inspiring People Whose Lives Began After 60

In 2010, there were about 524 million people aged 65 or older — and that number is expected to grow dramatically in the near future. In nearly every country, the over-60 demographic is growing faster than any other age group, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports.

While some traditional cultures have great reverence for their elders, other cultures don’t always show the same level of respect.  Age discrimination is a pervasive problem; misconceptions and stereotypes hurt seniors especially in the workforce. AARP reports that some employers assume senior candidates are slower, less creative, less productive and more expensive. But actual assessments of senior workers show that virtually none of these stereotypes are true.

The following remarkable people counter these stereotypes by accomplishing feats well into their 60s, 70s and beyond. Do you have examples of inspiring elders in your life? Share your stories in the comments below.

so there is hope that after I retire I can do something meaningful. I just wish our society valued its seniors. For the very first time 2 weeks ago a store clerk asked me if I qualified for the seniors discount - OMG! Not yet! Now I can start expecting people to start ignoring me.

Awesome, after just hitting my 45th birthday and still not having achieved the success I'm striving for... I'm truly and duly inspired, and the ember of my personal hopes has been fanned just a little brighter.

Thanks for this wonderful bit of inspiration!
