Q: I use a lot of aspartame (Nutrisweet), but recently read that a new study shows it might cause leukemia, lymphoma and breast cancer in rats. What is best to use instead? –Sam, TX
A: One of the best natural sweeteners is made from the herb stevia. It has zero calories, zero carbohydrates, and is a zero on the glycemic index. One brand, SweetLeaf, offers stevia in flavored liquids (for example, stevia and cinnamon or orange), as well as in little packets similar to synthetic sweeteners.

Informative article, thanks.
I tried stevia but my organism won't accept it. I ended up with acid mouth!
Guess we should avoid tap water and drink beer!
I use it all the time, it's great :)
Stevia is a plant and NOW you can buy it at a GARDEN NURSERY. Just ask them to bring it in to sell. Here in Melbourne Australia you can buy the plant. It is inexpensive... $2.50 to $3.00 for a small one. Its a bush when it gets going. It doesnt like frosts so you move it or protect it. You can keep it in a pot or plant it but it must be protected from frosts.
Stevia isnt expensive and the more who switch rather than using the neurotoxin will make the people who make Stevia comply and do something. The more you ask the more they listen. The squeaky wheel gets the most oil...doesnt it?
So grow it, take a leaf off the plant..it has tiny green leaves and tiny white flowers, dont wash the leaves or I dont but when I tried it I tossed the leaf into the tea or coffee, stirred the leaf around and tossed the leaf out after it was done. TASTE? BRILLIANT its very sweet and has the exact taste of sugar without the after effects or the thirst you get from artificial sweeteners or the bitter taste. YOU can also cook with it too. I havent but you crush the leaves and add it to your cooking including baking/cakes/biscuits etc.
Once you have tried it, I swear you wont try anything else.
SIDE EFFECTS? none..... to anyone and wont put on weight or spike Diabetes. Its a promise!
Organic is probably best...read your labels on the products and ask questions to a person who is offay with Stevia...a naturapath even.
Greay product , but expensive.
