Most people don’t think they need to worry about dehydration. To them, dehydration is something that happens to travelers in the desert when they run out of water. But there is a chronic form of dehydration that does not have the sudden and intense nature of the acute form. Chronic dehydration is widespread in the present day and affects everyone who is not drinking enough liquid.

This list of 13 symptoms will inspire you to go get a glass of water, and then another, and another …

(After each symptom we will show how lack of fluid affects the issue.)

1. Fatigue, Energy Loss: Dehydration of the tissues causes enzymatic activity to slow down.

2. Constipation: When chewed food enters the colon, it contains too much liquid to allow stools to form properly, and the wall of the colon reduces it. In chronic dehydration, the colon takes too much water to give to other parts of the body.

3. Digestive Disorders: In chronic dehydration, the secretion of digestive juices are less.

4. High and Low Blood Pressure: The body’s blood volume is not enough to completely fill the entire set of arteries, veins, and capillaries.

5. Gastritis, Stomach Ulcers: To protect its mucous membranes from being destroyed by the acidic digestive fluid it produces, the stomach secretes a layer of mucus.

6. Respiratory Troubles: The mucous membranes of the respiratory region are slightly moist to protect the respiratory tract from substances that might be present in inhaled air.

7. Acid-Alkaline Imbalance: Dehydration activates an enzymatic slowdown producing acidification.

8. Excess Weight and Obesity: We may overeat because we crave foods rich in water. Thirst is often confused with hunger.

9. Eczema: Your body needs enough moisture to sweat 20 to 24 ounces of water, the amount necessary to dilute toxins so they do not irritate the skin.

10. Cholesterol: When dehydration causes too much liquid to be removed from inside the cells, the body tries to stop this loss by producing more cholesterol.

11. Cystitis, Urinary Infections: If toxins contained in urine are insufficiently diluted, they attack the urinary mucous membranes.

12. Rheumatism: Dehydration abnormally increases the concentration of toxins in the blood and cellular fluids, and the pains increase in proportion to the concentration of the toxins.

13. Premature Aging: The body of a newborn child is composed of 80 percent liquid, but this percentage declines to no more than 70 percent in an adult and continues to decline with age.

if you didn't know the effects of lack of water on the body, now we do. its so hard to drink tap water in most places I have lived, I grew up on well water and its the best. but bottled water worked fine all those years I lived in so many places. Good tips. it is funny seeing comments from 1969???!!!!

We distill our water. Unfortunately, tap water in many areas contain chemicals such as floride, and residues from prescription drugs such as birth control pills and antidepressants. Instead of buying bottled water we bought a distiller. It has saved us a lot of money in the long run. We also mix my water with a green drink powder that gives us nutirents and alkalizes as well.

Great and Informative Article!
I didn't realize all the ways it affects our bodies.

THANKS!

How come all the comments are dated 31 Dec 1969? I find this very odd. Is it possible that no one has commented on water and its uses for 39 years?!!! Amazing.!!

We have had unseasonably hot weather here, and it is so hard on my body! It's unreal to me that a body is capable of sweating right thru underwaer and clothes!! This article on hydration makes such good sense, and we're all doing it here in Houston!!

Amazing what benefits a small thing like drinking more water can have.
Well, I'll definitely drink more water from now on!

This may sound odd, but it is so true. At first when you drink more water than usual you end up you know where for a few days. I have been on a water diet for almost 10 years, I feel better, I act better and now I am drinking less because I found out drinking too much like anything else, can cause you to lose some of the goods in your system. I live in FL. (ugh) and I have had heat stroke 4 times, (have to mow lawns) so I have learned to balance how much to drink and how much not too. Care 2 I'm glad you are teaching people about this. H2O is one of natures finest.

I love that all these comments are dated Dec 31, 1969 lol In any case, drink more water is a good idea, whatever water you can get your hands on. The point about showering with apple juice is a good one too though. Plain ol' water is tough to beat. Those of us fortunate enough to have it in abundance should not take this for granted. As for purity, i'll just say this:
"water that is too pure has no fish." just something to consider. thank you Care2 for all this food for thought. bless ur heart :)

The note about cholesterol made my eyes go wide open with surprise!! What about suggesting to people they could try and drink more first instead of all those awful and expensive drugs?
A very useful lesson for today!
