An Indonesian man traveled to Bangkok and purchased 200 live animals including live snakes, tortoises, squirrels, spiders, lizards and a parrot. He then crammed them into three suitcases hoping to travel by air out of Thailand so he could sell them. An airport official observed some of the animals during a routine pre-boarding baggage screening. The man and his luggage were detained, and reported to wildlife authorities. The wildlife trade monitoring network Traffic published a list of the animals that were found:
Ploughshare tortoise 1
Ceratophrys ornate (Argentine horned frog) 6
Radiated tortoise 7
Indian Star Tortoise 88
Common squirrel 22
Mata Mata Turtle 6
Bearded Dragon 19
Aldabra Tortoise 3
Theraphosidae (baboon spider) 18
Pig-nosed Turtle 1
Elongated Tortoise 33
African Grey Parrot 1
Ball Python 34
Boa Constrictor 2
Milk Snake 1
Corn Snake 2
King Snake 2
Lampropeltis zonata (kingsnake) 1
Lampropeltis calligasta (kingsnake) 1
Hog nosed snake 1
Spiny-tailed Lizard (Uromastyx ) 4
Sudan Plated Lizard 2
Chitra 4
The man purchased the animals at Chatuchak Market. Some vendors at this market have admitted openly to selling animals they know were obtained illegally. Endangered animals are also sold here, though it is illegal to do so. Enforcement of such laws has been reported to be lax to the point they have little effect. Live animals of all kinds are sold often at the weekend gatherings, with visitors of 200,000 each day.
Also this week, a number of Indian Star Tortoises, (though not 88) were illegally sent by air, packed in a box to England from Thailand.

+ add your ownI hope all the animals survived.
This man needs to be sentenced to live in a trunk for a few years--not a car trunk, but one that can be purchased at any retail store in the luggage dept.--let him see how he likes the "close confines".
SICK !
heartbreaking
this is plain creulty to animals and this man should be punished to the full extent of the law. we have a bearded dragon and we love him so much. he has a personality all of his own. he knows when we talk to him, he loves to sit in the window and let the sun shine on him, we hand feed him, and let him roam around on the couch
Horrible the things that go on. People are so selfish and greedy!
Hope he gets locked away for a very long time in a room the size of a suitcase.
What a horrible man. I hope he is locked up for life.
I hope all those animals survived being packed in the suitcases.
I hope he gets a huge sentence
What a nasty greedy piece of work this poor excuse for a human being is, I noticed that it does not say if they all survived, if they did lets hope they were all returned to the wild!
