What $300,000 Can Buy You Across the U.S. (Slideshow)

9. New York City.

Stats: 750 Sqft. 1 bedroom apartment.

Shocker! There are plenty of decent 1 bedroom apartments in this price range for sale in the Big Apple. Don’t get too excited, though, because, on top of your mortgage, you’ll be paying a $1,295 monthly assessment for such perks like a 24-hour doorman, extra storage and laundry. The unit itself, though, is certainly nice and not too small — the kitchen is updated, the bedroom is a good size, and the hardwood floors seem to be in good shape. But who needs to stay at home when you’re in the heart of the posh Upper East Side?

So very true, Kamia T.

Interesting article. I don't live in the States, but most western countries have some of the same issues when it comes to homes.

So, property prices vary according to what people are prepared to pay? And what they're prepared to pay depends mostly on how much they're likely to earn if they live there. That's hardly earth-shattering news.

Sorry guys, but if you just REALLY want to be paying for a million years on your house and/or never own it yourself, have fun. Here in the fly-over, forgotten rural lands of the Midwest, $300,000 would buy you 40 acres, a barn, a home, a pond, and a WHOLE lot of change! Not to mention gorgeous wildlife, clean air and affordable mortgage, tax and insurance payments LOL
