The first winner of American Idol is an animal lover with fifty animals living on her Texas property. She has dogs, horses, ponies, goats, and pigs. Clarkson is a meat eater, but she says she won’t eat her own animals, “I eat pork, don’t get me wrong but I’m not going to bake my own! I can’t do this. I can’t maim them then eat them, that’s wrong.” (Source: Showbizspy.com) It sounds like horses are the largest animal she will have on her sort of animal sanctuary, as she said she would never take a huge animal like an elephant on her property.
She also said she wouldn’t ever have a tiger. There are facilities in the state such as Tiger Creek for the big cats, where they are supposed to be given special care, the typical individual probably wouldn’t be able to undertake. She might want to consider adopting a local donkey or two, because donkey abandonment has been increasing in Texas. Also many animals are in danger of dying due to very dry conditions from a long drought. In this interview she talks about focusing on living a normal life, and also enjoying vintage cars.
She has toured the world and sold over twenty million albums, but continues living in Texas where she was born and grew up. Fellow Texan and animal lover Miranda Lambert is a friend of hers. Lambert has been doing a fundraiser for animals.

It's great that she's looking after so many animals, but I don't understand how she refuses to eat her own animals but will eat others? They are all living, breathing beings that feel pain and fear (not to mention are amazingly complex and very intelligent), so how is it that she thinks it's okay to eat the animals that are not her pets? For all she knows, the ones she eats have names too! Stupid...

Why is it "coo coo", Mrs. S.? I live alone and have about a dozen, and I'm post retirement. I bet Kelly Clarkson has hired help. It doesn't take that much longer to feed 10 dogs than it does 2. With a little help via a "J.D. Gator" or an assistant, doesn't take that much effort to feed a dozen horses, either. Where I used to board, the barn owner was in his 80's, had a 240-stall barn and did EVERYTHING by himself. Yes, it took him all day, but that's what kept him out of a wheelchair.
