7 Olympic-Caliber Animal Gymnasts (Videos)

Are you a diehard fan who’s watched every event of the 2012 Summer Olympics, or are you a long-suffering citizen who wishes everyone would just stop talking about the Olympic Games? Either way, you can surely appreciate the athletic efforts of these clever animals.

Above: Once the African day has cooled down, a wild troop of baboons show off their astounding cartwheeling skills. They make it look so effortless! (From the 1974 nature documentary Animals Are Beautiful People.)

Like many gymnasts, this cat seems to have only a passing relationship with gravity. He even has his own circus music! (via Animal Planet)

Leap, walk backwards, flip, somersault, jumprope—you name it, Jesse the Dog can do it. His human companion notes, “Jesse is trained using exclusively Positive Reinforcement and Clicker Training. All training has been done by me, and we love learning together as a team.”

This love bird can do flips on command! What a smart avian. (via Animal Planet)

This noisy baby sloth, from the Panamerican Conservation Association wildlife rescue center, is still a beginner gymnast… but she’s getting the hang of it! The rescue center’s rehabilitative specialists are teaching her wild sloth behaviors, like tree climbing, in the hopes of returning her to the wild when she’s older.

Although this Doberman is more aquatically-focused than most gymnasts, she still has incredible leaping skills. Watch as she cavorts up and down a water slide.

Human gymnasts often incorporate leaps and bounds into their routines, but they could still learn a few tricks from these wild Madagascar sifaka lemurs. Look at them go!
