Sure, most people are familiar with the “big” virtual meet markets like eHarmony, Match.com, OKCupid and, um, Craigslist but there are hundreds of dating websites out there that cater to romance-seekers with decidedly more specialized interests, values and physical attributes.
Click through to read about eight dating and personals websites that we found to be oddly specific or just flat-out odd. So if you’re on the prowl for the 6-foot-5 horseback-riding, Crohn’s disease-suffering objectivist Trekkie of your dreams, then keep on reading.

LOL...and let's not forget www.cougarlife.com
Too funny.
Mostly, it's about bringing together people with similar interests or outlooks, which is no bad thing.
Not too sure about the last one. You could describe it as narcississitic, or you could say it was elitist. Tall, blond hair blue eyes...ubermenschen? Today a date, tomorrow the world!
It takes all kinds and if they work great. I think the Darwin mob would have the least success with all that self loving look at me type vanity. The horsey crowd and ostemy groups would do well I think. Yes Becky Y your group criteria has promise too, go for it ;)
I remember years ago when I went on a dating site (not Internet). This guy who phoned me said he was a very good looking dentist. Ha! He was a dentist, but he was not at all good looking, and he had absolutely no personality. I imagine so many people that think they a perfect just have an over-inflated image of their selves.
I question the underlying assumption. It's like the 1960s joke, "Wow! We both like the Beatles. We must be meant for each other." Well, yes, along with several hundred million others. That calls for a pretty large love nest. I doubt that sharing such interests will take a relationship very far unless there's a foundation of such values as being honest with each other, having some good communication skills, not being into playing games (especially blame games), and the like, but if two people have that foundation, it mattes little whether they're Aynians or horse-lovers. Are there dating websites for people who have worked on their personal growth? Care about being up-front with their feelings in non-accusative ways? Are willing to put the partner's needs first? Wanting love in their sex and sex in their love? Having hearts full of gratitude and forgiveness? Those would be dating sites I'd visit, but I don't need to. I have the most adorable partner I could possibly imagine.
Some are oddly specific I agree but the last is just too messed up! If you think you are so beautiful that you actually go to dating sites with beautiful singles only, then you have a problem and its called vanity. Get help!
If I started a dating site the criteria would be:
1. Must love cats!
2. A least some cats must love you (cats being what they are will not all like the same person)!
I figure if both of those conditions are met then I would like to get to know the person.
Love the Trek one!
Well I must say those are very original and unique sites. Just shows that there's a niche for everyone. Thanks Megan.
Good idea Becky Y. There's always room for creativity and new ideas.
