I live in the UK, where the weather can be unpredicable to say the least. I grew tomatoes (outside) last year and they were still fruiting until late November, there wasn't sufficent sun to ripen them though. This year I'm going to grow tomatoes again, I've bought the seed already but as I don't live in the South East, which is pretty much frost free by the end of April, I will have to wait until the end of May before planting them out. Last year I grew three different types of tomatoes, the cherry ones did best, we had loads and loads of them. As regards other vegetables, well, I live in an rural area and so I buy things such as potatoes, onions, cabbages etc either from one of the local farms or from my neighbour who owns a field and sells their space produce at their garden gate - cheap and always fresh.
Wish I had the resources to grow my own food, as a child my father grew all our vegetables so I do know how much better they taste, unfortunately I live in an apartment these days but look forward to one day having a garden and being able to grow my own veggies.
Need more light in my apartment or I would have to resort to grow lights.
It's not just about the prices! I am afraid of what I am buying at my local grocery store. We no longer know what is GE and what is not. I started collecting containers and will start my own container veggie and herb garden this year. Thanks to all the inspiration frm care2.
thanks
Great. I will be turning over rows starting in February to get ready to grow my basics, tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, etc. I am so excited. Other fruits and veggies that I cannot grow, I will buy from the local farmers.
Love this article.
thanks
