It's said that eating an apple a day can keep the doctor away, but it can also make magic in other ways. Celtic legend has long believed that apple trees grew in abundance around the sacred English island of Avalon. Since then, apples have been strongly linked to spirituality. At that time, apples were always rubbed before they were eaten in order to remove evil demons that were thought to be hiding within. These legends believed that even the smell of fresh apples could bestow a long and virtuous life and restore flagging physical energies. During a month when holiday hoopla can sap your strength, smelling or eating an apple a day can apparently keep fatigue and weight away. Now that's as good as keeping the doctor away, wouldn't you say?

"See a penny pick it up,
all day long you have good luck."
Finding a penny is sometimes considered lucky and gives rise to the saying, "Find a penny, pick it up, and all the day: you'll have good luck." This may be a corruption of "See a pin and pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck" and similar verses, as quoted in The Frank C. Brown Collection of North Carolina Folklore and other sources.

Reflecting negative energy back at the source, this sounds like how I deal in some situations. Sometimes, you just need to smile and walk on!
