If you have a huge sweet tooth like me, then you love a good dessert every once in a while. But something I discovered in college is that you can’t do that every night of the week and still expect to fit into your favorite pair of skinny jeans. It just doesn’t work that way.
Plus, now that I’m older, I know when an indulgence is worth it and when it’s not. Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, for example? Always worth it. But a McDonald’s 50-cent cone? Not so much. These days I’m about quality over quantity.
The more I branch out in my diet and explore vegan cooking, the more I like to dabble in dairy-free desserts. My favorite experiment as of late has been avocado pudding.
Avocados are one of the healthiest foods around, packed with healthy fats and lutein that help protect your vision. And when you eat them with other foods, like blueberries, it can double the amount of antioxidants your body absorbs.
But because avocados are so rich in both nutrition and flavor, you want to stick to around a quarter-size serving to keep your calories in check. So be careful to not go too heavy on avocado chocolate pudding for dessert. It’s incredibly decadent, so a little will go a long way.
If you haven’t heard of avocado pudding, you’re about to. You simply whirl up an avocado in a food processor and add whatever ingredients you want, the most popular being cocoa powder, agave nectar, and banana.

If avocados aren’t your thing, another great vegan dessert is one-ingredient banana ice cream, which requires just one ingredient: Sliced frozen bananas! You can add other ingredients too, like chocolate sauce or peanut butter to pump up the flavor, but it’s really delicious as is.
