Barbecue Tofu and Vidalia Onion Stir-Fry

Barbecue Tofu and Vidalia Onion Stir-Fry

A little store-bought barbecue sauce transforms tofu from blah to bliss. Paired with sweet Vidalia onions (or red ones, if Vidalias arenít available), and you have a protein-packed, low fat (only 9 grams!), absolutely no-cholesterol tasty meal.

You can serve this over rice, or on its own with a salad and side. Healthy, nutritious, and completely mouth-watering.

1 1/2 tablespoons light olive oil
2 large Vidalia or red onions, quartered and thinly sliced
1 pound firm or extra-firm tofu, well-drained and diced
1/2 cup natural barbecue sauce, or as needed

1. Heat the oil in a stir-fry pan or large skillet. Add the onions and saute over medium heat until lightly golden.

2. Add the tofu and barbecue sauce and turn the heat up to medium-high. Stir-fry for 6 to 8 minutes, and serve on its own or over hot cooked rice.

Serves 4.

My housekeeper is from Indonesia and she brought some cooked spicy Tofu today for me to taste and it was wonderful. I have been wanting to try Tofu for a long time but didn't know what to do with it. This recipe sounds very good and so easy. Thanks, I'm going to try it!

This sounds really good. I may make this for supper tonight! I love sauteed onions and I've got some spicy honey BBQ sauce from a small business in Nebraska that I think would be perfect with the tofu and the onions!

I used to have a Sunset tofu cookbook. It had a recipe for barbecued tofu with homemade sauce. It was delicious!
