Massage therapists I have talked to love coconut oil for massage, because it melts on contact with the skin, leaves a protective barrier on the skin, has a slight lathering ability, and easily washes out of towels. Other oils stain, and towels become odorous after a while.
Here are some great variations of this tried and true formula:
COCONUT OIL
Simple scoop coconut oil on your hand.
BODY BUTTER
½ cup coconut oil
¼ cup cocoa butter
Soften the coconut oil and cocoa butter in a double boiler over medium heat. Remove from the heat and blend, adding a few drops of optional essential oils.
AROMATHERAPY MASSAGE OIL
Use 5 drops of essential oil – or less – per ounce of coconut oil.

Many people are allergic to coconut oil. It can cause swelling, hives, and rashes. It easily enters pores and is difficult to thoroughly wash away. You may suffer from photo-toxicity when exposed to sunlight after using these products. The light triggers a chemical change of the product on your skin (or clogged in your pores), resulting in redness, itching, swelling, and rashes or hives. The famous supermodel Christie Brinkley also suffers from this...it is actually quite common.
Great tip! Thanks!
