Best Natural Makeup and Perfumes

If you saw the article Top 10 Beauty Products for the Face posted here recently, you know that Natural Solutions magazine felt that it was time to recognize companies that are dedicated to making all natural beauty products. With this in mind they created an annual Beauty With a Conscience Awards. With the Whole Foods Market’s Premium Body Care standard (which deems more than 250 toxins unacceptable in personal care products!) as their criteria, they combed over hundreds of products to arrive with a short list of winners.

Although at Care2 we tend to lean towards the DIY, we have to admit that making your own mascara or eyeshadow might require some expertise beyond our skill set. (Although I should let Annie speak for herself there!) With that in mind, we present Natural Solutions’ Beauty With a Conscience Awards: Winners for Perfume and Makeup.

1. Best Foundation
Alima Satin Matte Foundation
Never cakey, this light powder imparted a healthy radiance and all-day coverage. Plus their 60 shades are bound to match any skin tone. ($20; alimacosmetics.com)
We also loved: Larénim Pressed Mineral Foundation ($25; larenim.com); nifty travel-friendly design. Suki Tinted Active Moisturizer SPF ($46, 1.2 oz; sukicolor.com); versatile coverage for everyday wear.

2. Best Eyeshadow
Monave Versatile Mineral Powders
We loved the rich range of colors that perked up our lids with a feminine shimmer without being too glittery. ($8; monave.com)
We also loved: 100% Pure Eye Shadow Palette ($35; 100percentpure.com); six colors pigmented with fruit or cocoa. Oberon Loose Eye Powder ($10; oberoncosmetics.com); deep, colorful choices.

3. Best Mascara
Larénim Mineralash Mascara
Enriched with lash-strengthening biotin, this mascara plumped up lashes without clumping. ($16; larenim.com)
We also loved: 100% Pure Ultra Lengthening Mascara ($21; 100percentpure.com); color from blackberries, blueberries, and açaí.

4. Best Blush
Alima Satin Matte Blush
This color left our cheeks with a lovely glow that garnered us a boatload of compliments whenever we wore it. ($15; alimacosmetics.com)
We also loved: Monave Matte Blushes ($14; monave.com); deep, rich colors. Larénim Blush ($20; larenim.com); subtle pinks and plums that last.

5. Best Lipstick
Earth’s Beauty Lipstick
Moisturizing shea and aloe make this one smooth move for your smacker. We liked Mandarin Coral. ($13; earthsbeauty.com)
We also loved: Primitive Natural Lip Color ($16; primitivemakeup.com);
vibrant color with smooth-as-silk texture.

6. Best Gloss and Tints
100% Pure Fruit Pigmented Lip Gloss
Want a subtle sheen without overdosing on color? This gorgeous gloss made from fruit pigments gave our lips the perfect pout without overwhelming our style. ($13; 100percentpure.com)
We also loved: Burt’s Bees Lip Shimmer ($5; burtsbees.com); fun, flirty tints with peppermint flavor. EcoTints Lip Moisturizer ($4; ecolips.com); the ideal lipstick-chapstick combo.

7. Best Perfume
Tsi~La Eau de Parfum Collection
An exquisite gift or the ultimate self-indulgence, Tsi~La uses a base of coconut oil infused with botanical extracts that fight free radicals. ($75, 0.5 oz; tsilaorganics.com)
We also loved: Aftelier Parfum de Maroc ($150, 0.25 oz; aftelier.com); a spicy Moroccan blend. Pacifica Solid Perfume ($9, 0.3 oz; pacificaperfume.com); portable case makes it great for a quick spruce up after a lunch-hour workout.

You might want to check out www.BodySenseShop.com. They carry a number of perfumes that are rated as safest by the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep database. While they don't carry much cosmetics, have a lot of paraben free personal care products

I meant to add that Aubrey Organics also sells a full line of haircare and natural spray fragrance, (their fragrance is not as available as the other items).

Aubrey Organics has a great line of body and skincare and some makeup. They use no parabens or other toxic ingredients, just mainly essential and natural oils, and definitely no artificial fragrance. Vitacost.com sells the Aubrey line along with many other online websites and some drug stores.

ARBONNE DOES HAVE PARABENS

You may find help with Miessence certified organic products. They have a range for all skin types including mature skin like ours.

Finally, people are becoming aware! Neways International has been trying to inform people about the toxins in personal care and cosmetics for close to years. I absolutely love their new line of paraben free, safe True Touch cosmetics and skin care products!

For years I used Borghese skin care line and cosmetics...then Chanel...now I'm using Origins and alternate with Dr. Haushka and Gabriel. I don't know what to use! I'm going through menopause at age 56 and my skin needs more help with dryness and undereye shadows and puffiness, and I haven't found any products yet that help with that. I am of Italian heritage and feel part of the undereye challenges are common of Mediterranean heritage. I'm still oily in the T-zone, dry under the eyes and on my lips...and haven't found a moisturizer yet that works. Actually, I'm in the mood for all new products. I work in an office and wear makeup each day; I prefer being put together so please don't suggest going au naturale. Thank you.

I believe Arbonne products have parabens. You might want to check that out.

It's good to know that we can find more natural products at the stores. But, you can also find all natural and botanical products online that are not sold at retail stores. I know of a Swiss company called Arbonne, and their products are great; they are a Vegan Certified company which means they never perform animal testing and never use animal by-products; you view more information about their products at Arbonne.com
or go to http://www.skincaretreatments.myarbonne.com
