Bird Takes Mass Transit (Video)

Sure, they annoy us greatly when they stand in our way on the sidewalk (and don’t get us started on the “presents” with which they “decorate” the city and our air-conditioning units), but something about pigeons taking public transportation just tugs at our jaded city-living heartstrings.

Just take a gander at this cute lil’ guy calmly riding the Toronto subway. He’s just like every other commuter: avoiding eye contact, minding his own business and maintaining his balance. When the train pulls into his stop, he exits making sure to mind the gap between the train and the platform. We can only wonder what kind of 9-5 job he’s holding down that requires traveling underground when he could so easily get there via his wings.

This cheered me up for today. Years ago when I lived in London, I often saw pigeons get on the trains. Yes, of course they could use their wings, just like we could use our legs. But if you can save your energy and travel by train for free, why not? I only wondered if they pigeons got off at the right stop or just traveled randomly for fun.
