Adapted from Holistic Aromatherapy for Animals: A Comprehensive Guide to Use of Essential Oil and Hydrosols with Animals by Kristen Leigh Bell (Findhorn Press, 2004).

Boo Boo Healing Salve is a wonderful all-purpose first-aid ointment for all sorts of canine wounds and irritations and is excellent for paw care.

To increase the therapeutic value, the base oils can be infused with a variety of skin soothing herbs, such as calendula petals, rose petals, chamomile flowers and lavender flowers.

Makes approximately 4 ounces (120 ml) of salve. Add to a mixing bowl:

1 oz (30 ml) Sweet Almond Oil
1 oz (30 ml) Hazelnut Oil
1 oz (30 ml) Sunflower Oil
1 oz (30 ml) Olive Oil
½ oz (15 ml) Beeswax

Gently heat base oils and beeswax over low heat (a double boiler set up is ideal) until beeswax is thoroughly melted. Add 20 drops of Vitamin E oil, a natural antioxidant preservative.

Let cool for 3-5 minutes then add the following essential oils and stir thoroughly:

6 drops Ravensnare essential oil
3 drops Ladanum essential oil
2 drops Helichrysum essential oil
5 drops Lavender essential oil
5 drops Geranium essential oil
5 drops Rosewood essential oil
5 drops Thyme essential oil

Pour into a dark (cobalt or amber) glass jar. Allow to cool completely before putting on lid.

While they don't advise using essential oils on small animals, Aromatics International does sell guaranteed pure oils. They're recommended if you're going to be using your oils for anything therapeutic. http://www.aromaticsinternational.com

What is this pet thing? Possibly the term should be symbiotic? People(animals-mammals) have bonded with many other creatures over the years. On the other note, they have enslaved many others. So, pet????
