Build Your Own Daybed

Build Your Own Daybed

Doesn’t everyone have a secret longing for the perfect daybed? (Think: afternoon reading sessions and naps.) Remodelista contributing editor Izabella does, which is why she took note of this DIY daybed made by freelance stylist Minna Jones, who writes the blog Time of the Aquarius.

Here’s a brief tutorial on building a similar version:

Above: Jones opted to paint the daybed white and added pillows and an Ikea mattress. She also added a front panel, which is attached with an angle iron for a more finished look.

Above: Jones attached a simple wood slat bed frame to the walls using heavy-duty screws.

Above: Jones then used two sets of Ikea Sultan Lade slatted bed bases and screwed the slats to the top of the bed frame. For added support, she screwed leg supports into the frame.

Above: A front view of the finished day bed. To add texture and comfort, consider Coyuchi’s Organic Throw Pillows made of organic cotton; $72.

I like it. That underneath area would be great for some storage baskets or drawers too.

Excellent article. Even someone as mechanically challenged as myself could do this.
