Always pushing pills. Have a proper diet, exercise and take calcium if needed. Too much calcium deposit will weaken your bones.
Not v. helpful.
Deanna, it was most certainly NOT propaganda. The biggest problem with women (for the most part) is that they are so weight conscious, they give up dairy completely because of the myths that dairy is all full of fat and excess calories. Men think they are immune. The biggest contributor these days is too much PHOSPHORUS from "fizzy" soda which leaches calcium from the body. Also, calcium is not absorbed in the bones simply by taking a supplement. It should be in certain forms (calcium carbonate is next to useless) and in the proper ratio with other minerals, specifically magnesium. Without Vitamin D and magnesium, calcium becomes problematic and can cause kidney stones.
I drink very little milk anymore and am not vegan, but since my Mom had osteoporosis and I am 35% more likely to develop it, it is of real concern to me and I did participate in an osteoporosis research study. Yes, bone density testing is very important, and if you can, stay away from the medications such as "Boniva".
thank you.@ Deanna R.
