8 Great Cleaning Shortcuts (Slideshow)

7. Have a Place for Everything.

Implementing an organization system — and actually using it — will cut down on your cleaning time considerably. Have a hamper in your bedroom and your bathroom. Keep a shoe rack in the hallway. Organize your craft supplies with ice cube trays. Always put your dirty dishes away if you’re not washing them immediately. Etcetera. Don’t have a place for something? Consider getting rid of it.

8. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff.

We’re all busy, and there are plenty of other things we want to — and should — be doing with our time. There are plenty of cleaning tasks – like, say, washing the drapes or cleaning behind the fridge, that only need to be done a few times a year.

Great handbag lint roller tip; thanks for sharing.
Another tip that helps me is I have a cardboard box on the kitchen bench with all the non-perishable foods that are close to their best before date. When it's time to rustle up a meal, I have a look in there first. As I hate wasting food and money, and dislike having a cluttered kitchen, it inspires me to empty it asap and shop carefully to keep the box as small as possible.
As for cleaning behind the fridge a few times a year, forget that. My fridge is so old it actually has a picture on the freezer door of the His Master's Voice dog listening to the gramophone. It's full of character but is incredibly heavy and would need three strong people to move it. I love my fridge but whatever is behind it is staying there!

I do a lot of these, but could do some of them better

Thanks for the tip with the Lint roller. We've always used it for cat hair, but I didn't think about using it to clean out the inside of my purse.

And thanks to Bryna P. for the tip with the dish rags!

That's an amazing post for cleaning shortcuts, I'll definitely try them! And the other day a friend of mine from told me that I could use some of the products I have at home to make my own natural cleaning products, like baking soda and vinegar for example. They sure do save some time and money, when it comes to fast quality cleaning.

Thank you! I discovered that microwaves can remove the sour smell from dish rags that still smell sour after being laundered. I just get the clean cloth wet and microwave it for one and a half minutes. Before discovering this trick, I just threw the sour dish rags away.
