The Cure for Delight Deficit Disorder

Adapted from 365 Energy Boosters, by Susannah Seton and Sondra Kornblatt (Conari Press, 2005).
Delight Deficit Disorder is a condition that results in irritability and that worn out feeling. Delight Deficit Disorder leaves us feeling lethargic and numb to our lives. Are you suffering from DDD? Here is the cure:
When we take ourselves too seriously, forgetting to indulge in the simple pleasures of life, we can get a whopping case of Delight Deficit Disorder. The cure is to lighten up and find healthy ways to bring pleasure back into our life.
We have to find a balance between pressure and pleasure, or our epitaph will read, “Got everything done, died anyway.”
When you don’t get enough delight in your daily diet, you begin starving for spiritual nutrients. You need a dose of simple pleasures. Everyone’s are different–just be sure you indulge a bit. What pleases you? Find easy, inexpensive ways to give yourself what delights you. For example, if a trip to Paris is financially out of reach, indulge in a cup of café au lait and a crusty baguette, munched while listening to an Edith Piaf CD.

Love Edith Piaf! I agree with Kenneth the disorder thing has got to go. However, saying that what better way to outshine those ugly irresponsible terms with those of true handlings.
The article is great though and I thoroughly recommend an indulgence

I absolutely agree that doing things that delight one has a whole lot of therapeutic value. Thank you Anna for much truth here.
Maybe change though the use of the words 'deficit disorder' as that's a term too frequently pushed and sold to zillions of parents and children by psychiatry. It's so common that ANYTHING could be considered a 'disorder', all thanks to the psychs.
